I came across an old compressor for sale. Cast in the side of it reads "Service Station Garage Equipment Co. Ltd. Toronto" and has brass tag that reads ECO. It is the original green paint. The guy wants about $500 for it, I think he is nuts.... If it was $40 I would grab it but he insists it is that valuable, could be put back in service and is better than most pumps made today. He may have a point there, but is there really any collector value to the tune of $500 here? Was this mounted to a tank to run compressed air for tools or just air for tires. Can anyone date it? Thanks for reading...

I love the old compressors but so far I have not found they hold any value. Bought an old DeVilbiss with a 3 hp motor on a skid for $40. For less than $500 you can get a complete setup with an old 2 stage pump, motor, and 80 gallon tank ready to go. Too bad when people watch too much "Pickers" on the TV. My opinion only and not to be taken as an insult in any way. Here is some discussion on another old compressor. http://www.oldgas.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=192951&page=1Mike

While cool, the dude is nuts. You can get a 60 gallon 2 stage shop compressor in working order and of similar vintage for $150-200. I'm assuming that was mounted to a tank, so $40-50 is about right. Maybe I'm wrong, but vintage compressors, while great to use, don't have a whole lot of monetary value.

It don't look large enough for tools. It is unique, but not $500 Unique.

Worth about scrap price to me. Something cool to clean up and put on a shelf for display. But..in regard to using it...not very practical.

It could be worth a couple bucks to put in your shop then have the nice big two stage american made comp. hidden behind the shop.

Heres a picture of the compressor we were talking about in the thread that Mike posted for you. Its a complete Wayne compressor and is listed in Jack Sims literature. I thought it was really cool but it was priced at $500 and I decided to pass after visiting with the rest of the gang!

Not near as neat but I picked this little guy up today. Quincy model 210. Company is still in business and parts are available. Hopefully I won't need any major parts but it is good to know that I can get them. Came with everything minus the motor. 20 gallon Tank on caster wheels, pressure valve and pump. $20 Mike

Air compressors are a great restoration project because they come cheap, are easy to restore and when you're finished you have something that you can use.

Tokheim made a cast iron figural "Bibendum" compressor for Michelin in the 1920's...I'd pay $500 for one of THOSE!
