I remember somewhere between 1969 & 1971 my uncles BP station had gone up to 30cents and we would just stop in and sign a ticket and pay at the end of each month , I remember having that kind of credit at the gas station , grocery store and drug store until about 1982, People would not trust you that much now.
Remember you are only as good as your help If you don't make any noise no one will hear you!

Oil prices are no longer decided by supply and demand. Since it is traded on the open market we are at the mercy of investors and their mood swings. We could drill and refine 100% of our domestic supply of oil and it would not keep prices in check.

Dave hit the nail on the head. Not a supply and demand game- A futures market game. The devaluation of the dollar also has something to do with the oil price. Gas is CHEAP here! I love when people complain about prices and drive a hybrid that gets 50mpg...I get 15!!!!

Gas must only be $1.85 in California if the taxes are 1/4 of the cost of a gallon of gas with these taxes. Westward ho!

Dave and 57 are on target - specualtors are the ones (who are employed by BIG oil) that essentially set the prices. I recall on December (just prior to the holiday season when folks will be travelling a lot) the price of gas spiked and they said they were taking precautions because of hurricanes... IN DECEMBER!!!
I wouldn't have a problem with these gas prices EXCEPT for the fact that BIG OIL is setting historic profits... not for this century, but in the history of business and when profits were being recorded! This tells me that the cost of producing gas is still low and the greed is going through the roof. It is white collar theft and we the people are the victims.
sorry for the rant

Paid $4.35 per gallon cash price for 91 octane here in Cupertino California. Yikes! Back in 1963 Supreme was 35 cents per gallon at my Standard Station. Back than I was making over $5 per hour to. Dick the mini runs on 91 due to 11 to 1 compression on it's high performance 4 cyd. engine; does good on the high way though MPG wise.

Here in Ontario, today at most places, it will cost you the equivalent $5.44 USD for one US gallon. In Montreal, $5.70 US gallon.
