So, I have been tearing down a Pennsylvania SE2 clockface and have it all apart but can't for the life of me figure out how to get the machined reset knob off. It seems to have some sort of gearing inside so when you turn it clockwise it just clicks and doesn't move the mechanism and when you turn it right it resets it. But, I can't get it to unthread, assuming it is threaded by turning in either direction, and there doesn't seem to be a pin or anything like that holding it on. Ideas?

Seems to me the reset on that pump is a two piece, the outer casing is threaded on. I think anyway?

There's a hex shaped piece at the back of the casting, but it looks like it's all one piece. Perhaps it's two pieces but it doesn't look that way?

Hi Chris, don't know if I can answer your question but I can offer another set of eyes? We have a small machine shop at home, just outside Baltimore, I'd be glad to look at it and see If I could help?

Let me know,
Keith

Thanks Keith, I may have to take you up on that if further tinkering doesn't yield any insights!

Is that a Pennometer pump?

This is off a pennometer clock, it has a ratchet inside to only turn the centershaft of the clock in one direction to reset. I could not get the brass end off, so I assume it is knurled and pressed in. It might be threaded. I had to use a tubing cutter for copper pipe and cut the oustside of the knob to open the ratchet area. I was able to get it off then. I had a new (solid) one made at the machine shop.
It will have to be a LEFT hand thread and kept stationary with threadlock
good luck.
Joe

That's the same one on my pump, and it is threaded, a littlebfirm pressure and it spun off.

So Lance, do I turn it in the direction of the reset after it is reset back to zero to spin off?

And Joe, that is the same knob I have. It's not a Pennometer pump, but made by the same folks so I'm assuming they used the same knob.

I think what pogo was meaning is that the brass plug in the end is threaded.

So would I still have to cut the aluminum piece off?

Unscrew the aluminum part from the brass part of the knob.
Once the aluminum part is off, you can unscrew the ratchet
(left hand thread ? ) then you will be able to take the brass part off.

Got it, I'll give that a whirl. I'm assuming the aluminum part is standard threads.

It may be left hand
if you reset the clock to the left, if they were not L-H
it would come off?
