I'm taking apart my first restoration project - a short 39. What is the purpose of this weight/pulley assembly on the nozzle side of the pump? Is this anything I need to keep, or can it be tossed with the other
unneeded guts?

JJ

That is the retractor assembly. There is a cable that attaches to the hose and pulls the hose back to the pump. The weight slides up and a track which pulls the hose back. I would keep that assembly and make it functional.

Then on the other hand , if your doing the pump for yourself as a display? theres no need in keeping it. as I've alwayed said its your pump do what you want.

MY FIRST PUMP RESTO, ALSO A TOK39 SHORT HAD THE SAME ASSEMBLY. I FIGURED, SINCE THE PUMP WOULD NOT BE FUNCTIONAL, NOR THE HOSE BE USED. THAT IT WAS JUST DEAD WEIGHT THAT I DIDN'T NEED TO HAVE INSIDE. I STILL HAVE THE WEIGHT AND THE SHAFT ....JUST IN CASE!

keep it! We through away the pump and keep the rest. Toss the pump because it stinks and is heavy.

I can supply you with a new cable, fittings for the ends, and a new clamp for the hose. Just let me know how long the cable should be.
