Good Morning Everybody,
I am restoring a Bowser 310 and am now working on cleaning the Brass Spinner. I started with steel wool but quickly found that the bottom has a hairline stress crack and if not really careful I will break it. Is there something I can let it soak in to remove the varnish that is caked on the spinner? I thought I remember an episode of Myth Busters where Coke removed the tarnish on a penny, will this work for brass? Any other advise, I dont want to break the spinner.
Thanks in advance,
Easy G. Butler

I would try the Coke Idea from myth busters, just because it isn't going to really cost you much and it would be interesting to see if it would work.

A door to door salesman came to my house years ago selling various cleaners. he poured some solution in a cup a dropped a dirty penny in it and it came out looking shiney and new. to this day I can't remember what it was , maybe someone on here will know. I'm interested too. Ron

Try jewelry cleaner, my wife drops her rings, and all the other bling bling into a cup and it comes out clean, She just informed me it is simple "Lemon Ammonia" bought off the shelve, It works great on Gold, The jeweler told her to use it, Rick

Not sure where or if its available. But we used to use a product called oakite. It was an excellent cleaner for brass or copper.

An electrical shop I worked at, had an acid called BRITE SPECIAL. You could drop any brass or copper part in it, and all the crud was gone in a few minutes. It contained flourmetric acid. [not too sure I spelled that right.] If you find some be careful, it etches glass [and fingers] so you cant clean porcelain with it. RD
