I'm full of questions tonight. I've started restoring my Wayne 80. What does everyone do about the computer? As you can see, mine is pretty nasty, as I'm sure many are. The pump reset is frozen. From what I can tell, once you get everything back together, you can't see much of it. Do you clean what will show the best you can and leave the rest alone?

Ive done quite a few this way and they look good.

take the covers off and lightly sandblast everything ( after you have gotten it all freed up with pb blaster). then you can put on all new decals on the computer wheels. you can get the decals from anywhere, and in many colors.

I've never restored a pump with a computer. But, I can tell you what I WOULD do... I'd clean everything with brake cleaner or carb cleaner -- everything but the wheel faces that is. Those you probably dont want to get that cleaner on. I'd clean those numbers with WD-40 and a soft toothbrush.

I'd try to free it up with penetrating oil, oil everything, and set the price, put the gallons to zero, paint the sheet metal cover, and put it in...

PB Blaster is the second best penetrating oil there is - and you can get it at places like Auto-Zone, etc. Good stuff.

I wouldnt sandblast it. In my opinion, everything looks good. I think the sandblast would do more damage than good. Just go with the PB Blaster to loosen it up, then repaint the red indicator arrows. I've retouched faded wheels, on mine, with a sharpie marker. I like the look of a working pump. JMO.

Yeah - I dont think yours is bad enough to send blast (or even take apart). The number wheels look real good too.

The best penetrating oil is AeroKroil. I've only found where you can order it online - haven't found it in a store.

PB Blaster is awesome though, and much cheaper.

I've had to do a couple of dogs, so they were sandblasted clean with new strips on the number wheels. Since there is no expectation that the calculator/computer has to work, this was acceptable to me. Some guys are more detailed on that than I am.

A local machine shop has an ultra sonic machine he uses to clean alminum heads. they look brand new in ten minuets. I know minie blind places have similar machines but not sure of the soap they use. Just another idea to think about.

I NEVER liked the look of the stickers.

IT is is working, I will repair the numbers with the decail then sell it and get a trashed one or a good working one.

What I do is watch ebay - or check with my local pump store, and see if they have any 4 "one dollar" number wheels they will sell. These type of pumps are still being used, and they still repair the one dollar computers, will not work on the 99 cent ones for some reason. MOST of the time you can get the NOS numbers cheap on ebay in mint shape...

IF I can not get the thing to turn, Then I take the wheels off, and put the new wheels on. You have to use some rod stock and grind a groove in it to install and remove the numbers. I take all the winding gears out and then hot glue the numbers to 0.00 - then I put the shutters back on, and no one ever knows it is not correct.

When you spin the crank, the shutters close - and the bell rings , then the sutters come up and everything is set to 0.00 -
