Problem is , if someone took Pegusus away, then Dallas wouldn't seem like Dallas anymore . Thats one of the things I looked forward to as i would drive in at night from Down Town Ft Worth at night . Only the Reunion Tower would be a beacon then.......... Hey if ya wanna do something constructive , go re build the Gloco station over on Cadiz !!!!!!!!!!!!

I was hoping a Dallasiter, Dallasinian, Dallaser, or what ever you guys are called, would chime in. Seems to me that this sign over your city must be quite a sight/landmark. I'm thankful to all who donated to save it and I've never even been to Texas.

SC, I too am suprised as to the lack of thought given to restoring ole Pegusus at the Magnolia building too. Dallas has always been the financier for both Houston and Dallas . I say that on account of my owning a business at one time that started in Houston , then moved to Dallas as my client base was actually there . Ed Shaver

My brother in law is in Dallas on business pretty frequently. Since I collect Mobil he's always mentioned this sign to me, but I've never been to Texas to see it myself. He said the biggest detractor is that new construction around the downtown has made this sign more difficult to see. Back in the 30's and for quite a few years after the Magnolia building was one of the tallest in the skyline, so the sign was easily visible....not so much these days he said. Too bad, but I guess that's progress.

At night you can make the sign out from miles away from Oak Cliff to the South. Unfortunately, the taller buildings have hidden the Magnolia building from view. From one of the buildings I work in you can look down and see it from above. The sign has been stationary for the past few years but it is still one of the coolest things around.

So what do people from Dallas call themselves? I.E., I'm a "Detroiter" (even though I live in the subs).
