How do you value a sign when its rare like the one I just got. It is a Texas TP sign with the Tee pee design in the middle which I have only seen once which was about 20 yrs ago in a restaurant in Texas. Unfortunatly has one small hole by the P and one side has great gloss other side faded. If better condition I am sure it would go thousands as I have looked for the last 20 yrs and this is first one I have come across. Never seen any on ebay, auction sites or shows. 48 IN

was wondering who gave the seller an offer? http://cgi.ebay.com/TEXAS-PACIFIC-GASOLI...8QQcmdZViewItem
Last time I saw one was at the Pate swap meet this past Spring..Howard and Rick had it for sale..before that saw one on ebay last year.
I do see one come up every now and then but not very often.
As aways condition is important....
I have been watching it but the condtion wasn't there for me..
I guess the value to you is what you paid for it.and are you happy with it?...and how much are you willing to pay for an upgrade in the future.
Anyway, a rare sign and congrats.
(I guess you can stop looking now)

From what can seen by the ended listing... with no bids! Most including myself, must believe its worth less than $150!

Bottom line thoughts to value is... what the buyer is prepared to pay. While at the same time, what the seller is preared to accept... and as you havent said what you paid, we may never know.

But if your happy, why even worry about it. Hang it and enjoy!

I think this is the sign that spent a week or so on Craigslist at $1400 with no takers.
I thought about it but the condition held me back.

Boy Ynot was way off, it had reached $610 then he ended the listing and it showed what he started it at $150 not sure why ebay shows it like that. If I thought I would get bad information like that I never would have wrote in. This should go even in its condition $1500 plus due to its rarity. He needs to attend a few gas and oil auctions to see what this stuff goes for. I would buy a ton of these if they were at $150 even in this condition.

OOOOHHH! That was you, eh? Broke my heart when he canceled the auction. I was going to bid on it, just not sure how much. I snoozed and then I loozed.

The reason I hadn't bid yet was because I don't really know how much it is worth. The high bid was at $666 when he killed the auction, but I know it would have gone higher.

The hardest lesson for me to learn is that "rare" doesn't always mean valuable. Rare and sought after = big bucks, but rare and less sought after = not so big bucks. Condition plays a big factor too. Personally, I love the teepee, but then again being a Texan means that I have to go after everything that says Texas. I don't know why.

I really wanted that one. That one would have been my favorite. Dernitt!! Congrats on your sign, but please forgive me if I curse your name just a little bit before I go to sleep tonight.

Thats ok tagree0 at least you know it has value unlike some people on here. I saw this about 15 yrs ago in a restaurant in Texas near some very old petro oil derrick and owners wouldn't sell it at all and I have been looking every since with no luck on finding it. The thing about ebay is that I will see something sit for 5 or 6 days at a low price say $400 thinking I will get it for $600 these auctions then shoot up last second usually way above what I can spend usually $1200-1500 for a hard to get sign thus I think it would have easily gone over $1000 but fortunatly he ended it. Even if I paid too much I don't mind this time, I really wanted it.

I was working up the nerve to go $1k. It is definitely worth that to me. However, I have just made 3 big purchases and don't want this to become an addiction. I decided to wrestle it over in my mind over the weekend. Too late. If I hadn't just bought these three things I would have gone $1k for sure. I probably would have been sniped at $1k, and that would have really devastated me, so I guess you did me a favor.

I find it hysterical that I am so heartbroken when I get sniped, but then I am also unhappy when I don't get sniped, thinking I must have overpaid. Continually engaging in behavior despite negative psychological consequences is a hallmark of addiction.

I'm sure there is alot of satisfaction in finding your prize after 15 years, but hopefully I won't have to wait that long for mine.

I don't know why, but it cracks me up that a company with the initials TP would have a teepee as a logo. Cracks me up.

Thats the thing, most don't show the TP like the ethyl ones don't, very hard to find the TP designed one. You would have paid just over what I paid. I am happy even if it was a little high only problem my sales are way down with this economy and ebay forcing me to use paypal with their fees and their holding payments up to 21 days thus I am making very few purchases that are over $300 and this was alot more

I will never understand why After anyone buys a sign that they post a question on here looking for what it's worth to others [trying to convince the wife it was a good deal!]. Evidently you were happy to get it for what you paid. Insure it for what you paid + 15%.

Rarity is not as valuable as CONDITION.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the TP signs without teepees. I saw one on eBay a couple of months ago, it was ok, but it didn't make me drool.

I guess I could expect that from Bennett who said he was coming over to see my items on the way to Iowa and never responded after I got items ready for him to see.
