Looking at a gilbarco pump. Wondering if it's worth the roughly $900 he is asking for it. Here's a link to the photos and discussion I started on garage journal.com. Garage journal.com

Mitchtr25068,

The pictures on the other forum are only viewable by members of that forum who are logged in. I'm sure there are members here who are also members there, but you are cutting your odds to get answers.

I think (I am not an expert) it is a G&B 98, The Book value is $450 in very good condition. $900 is way to high in my opinion.

I've owned & sold at least a dozen of those pumps and they are common enough that the value remains in the $400 to $500 range.
I'm sure there are instances where they brought more at an auction where 2 people were determined to win, but my price will cover 99% of them for sale here in the US.
That looks like a very nice clean one and you shouldn't be deterred by valuations. If you want it, can afford it, and you like it---Buy It. Too many people are swayed by VALUE.

I'm going for it! Now the real fun begins. Do I live with the patina and just get the ad glass and repro globe, or do i media blast, powder coat and otherwise do a exterior restoration?

I like it as is. It can only be that way once--you can always restore it!

Thanks Kevin. I'm going to take your advice and take it slow, although I have to admit that I'm very excited and have many hours in the last two days pouring over this site. Feels like the same addiction that led to my having three triumphs in my two-car garage!

Make sure you check the very top of the pump on the top panel for rust and also on the sides at the very bottom. Those pumps are known for rusting in those areas. It looks like much of the paint is missing so it could be an issue on that pump.

Drive with Care and Buy Sinclair!! I buy Sinclair globes, signs, cans, ect.
