Number one is usually reserved for the governor of a state, but this appears to be a commercial plate?

Maybe it's a plate for a vehicle that was in service for the govenor (like maybe a gardening truck or ???) or maybe the govenor's mansion???

Sorry to bump topic! My problem is,headed to Carlisle end of the week. If I thought I could come back with a nice sign I will take the plate with me. But if the plate isnt worth that much , I will keep it! Really dont want get laughed at,because i know nothing about plates!

  99 counties in Iowa alphabetical,5 is Audubon Co.in 1972 that would have been the 598 truck registration.64 plate,do not know the county but would have been the 4th.truck registered.As i recall in some of the counties the no.1 plate usually went to the mayor or some one that was city council etc. Shell Illinois,any one venture a guess who this belonged to? So how hard is it to find a #1 plate in any State? With the system now used on plates,numerals,letters i doubt there are any single digit plates issued unless for a dignitary,just my guess,

...bear in mind: those insane prices are for the rights to use the current plates, not for vintage plates...it's a status symbol in DE...
