Seems that this post was pulled for some reason. What is the story? Nothing bad said about anyone or anything. Public information.

I was at the auction, prices were unbelievable, it only takes 2 uneducated people to have an auction. Stayed till 11am. wanted to buy but when the prices are sky high what's the sense of staying. Here is the proxy bid results https://www.proxibid.com/asp/catalog.asp?aid=65702for Saturday-

Regardless of what was paid onsite, imagine running that up by 18% for online bidding and then the GST and appropriate PST!! For those who don't know those acronyms; it means a 5-13% sales tax depending on where you live in Canada. You could pay 31% more than your successful bid if I understand it right. Yikes. Fred

I agree with TC as I also was there. One bidder pretty much bought all the high end items. Would have been a hefty cash out for him.

I understand that everyone has a budget to live within. What, I don't understand what gives the ones with limited budgets to judge the actions of those who can afford to freely spend their money.
At the end of the day how someone else spends their hard earned cash is up to them and no ones business; but theirs! It's their money and their privilege to spend it how and on what they want.
Value is a subjective term.

At the auction it was 10% buyers premium and the HST-harmonized sales tax was 13% for a total of 23%. Ya Dave well said but whats that do to the hobby? Ted

I agree with TC, my post had nothing to do with how someone spends their money. In fact I wish I could get the original post up or back. It stated has anyone been watching the Ontario auction. We should all see about selling pumps in Canada. It gave two prices of pumps that were sold. There was nothing mentioned about how someone spends money or making fun of anyone their. It was just stating the prices brought at auction of two of the pumps. It was then removed.

I don't think it affects the hobby very much. There will always be those who have more money to spend than you or me. That is just the ways things are. I know I was bidding against at least one local millionaire collector and probably a few others but I am happy with my purchases, at least until I see them. Pictures and auctioneers do lie at times. You just have to pick your moments to bid and never expect to steal it, especially at a public auction. As Dave says value is subjective and I for one am glad there is still this much interest and money in these times. All you have to do is look at some of the other collectibles that have radically depreciated to realize how good we have it. It is a great hobby that runs the gamut of both good and bad people and prices. It is yours to choose how you want to deal with it. Cheers, Don.

One auction, ten or so gas pumps doesn't make any difference at all.
We are comparing apples and oranges here. Most of us have more time then money. But amongst us at Auctions walk people who are at the other end of the spectrum; they have more money then time.
They don't need to, want to or care to search out the best prices. They want to buy the pumps and couldn't care less if they pay x5 the retail value.
How can these few individuals impact on or effect the hobby?
I to am grateful that our hobby has the interest it does in these times of fiscal restraint.
