Why is this topic locked? I would like to know as well as why wait and have show Sunday? Myself I would be driving a long way as others would for the auction. Why wait till Sunday for show if everyone is there and have show Saturday. Sounds like the promoter is not making enough and wants to hit everyone on early admission. Makes no sense to hold off till Sunday. People who are into it are there to buy so you allow the ones who know each other to buy prior to the show in line. Does not sound very good when you look at it in that light.

Peotone is a great show, one of my favorites. The show is open to anyone on Saturday at around 1100-1200 noon. You have to pay to get in, if you are a vendor and already paid for a vending spot or two they give you one or two free passes. (Not a ticket but a wrist band) The price to get in on Saturday is higher than on Sunday but then again you get to see things the first day of the show. Sunday they let poeple in from Saturday if you have a wrist band on at 6AM I think or if it is your first day there you can get in at a reduced rate from Saturday. At about 8AM the price to get in drops again. Show people normally start to pack up at around noon. Good show with a lot of off the street foot traffic. A lot of buyers picking up smaller stuff on Sunday. Not sure what you meen about people that know each other can buy prior to the show. Show up, pay to get in and buy away. Good German restraunt in Peotone, the Bier Stube. Get a schnitzel and say hello to Melissa the bar tender.

Well said Wes it is a good show and is set up very good. As far as the auction goes what i do is bid online and then pick it up at the show works well.

The swap meet is in the same building as the auction. The auction area must be packed up and cleaned out so that the Saturday swap meet can have room to get in and accupy the premises.
The auction takes up a lot of area and every bit of it is utilized by the vendors on Saturday. SSssooooo--
Saturday morning set up and swap meet Saturday afternoon and sunday! Works well!

If you have followed posts about the shows over the last few months you will quickly come to realize that no matter when a show starts or ends someone will bitch and complain.

Peotone is a great show, I always do good buying and selling there. The Sunday format for the main day of show works well in that venue, there is more foot trafic on Sunday than you will see at any show. Lotsa new collectors as well as many families come through the gate on Sunday. This show has had this same format since they started the show many years ago.

It works for them and is definately a show worth going to.

Hope to see many of you there!

It's a great nucleus of people with the same common interest, that really starts & stops as advertised.
Not many Petroliana gatherings can say that today.

I was not bitching about anything. Just wondering why the show is set up the way it is on a split day between when show starts. I have been to both the auction and show and have enjoyed both. Not everyone lives close and can go to all parts when either they work or have to come a long distance.

What most people don't realize is that the auction and show are two completely separate events. Since its beginning 12 or 13 years ago the show has always been a one day Sunday Show with dealer set up on Saturday. I have never seen an indoor show that did not have set up time for dealers the day before the shceduled start of the show.

Dan Matthews started having an auction a number of years ago to piggy back on the show and the people that have already traveled for the show. I think its great (as most everyone else I know) that I can catch two unrelated petro events on the same weelend.

I will add i used to go to the auction and then hit antique stores on Sat and the show on Sunday. Back 6 or 7 years ago i started setting up outside so i can get in on Sat. They have inside and outside booths.

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

If a guy needed some parts for a pump would this be a good place to go? I'd love to make it down
