What is the deal on this one??? The letters on the hat aren't real letters and spell nothing. Here is another How common is this sign? And what do you think the value is? Thanks Joe [This message has been edited by jkyocom (edited 05-06-2007).]

The writing on the hat looks Arabic to me. But I dont know what operations Standard (Ind) had in the Middle East.

But it came from a bulk plant in Alabama. Could it be generic....for all Standard brands....Pan-Am, Standard, Amoco, American?

I don't think that lettering is Arabic. It looks more like Hindi or something similar. My guess is that the hat was probably made for personnel in India, Indonesia or Malaysia. IMO

You have a very rear item in the sign. The lettering is what printers use called "greeking" it normally is used to paste somthing in that will change later(on the final product) or when the words are not important. In this case it was someting used to save money so SOIND didn't have to print on for each marketing company. From the looks of the torch and oval design it looks post Pan-Am. From the size and shape of the sign it may have been used as a window display for Standard, Amoco, and American stations.

It has another sign below it and says "get now" it hangs from a chain and there might be one that hangs from that one.
We have decided to call him Stan Pamoco.
Pan-Am used the oval and torch too. Is there a differece in the Standard,American,Pan-Am Torches? Joe
