On that? Very disappointed, sounds like a breech of contract

I got the email today aswell. I hate that it's happening and hopefully they will find another auctioneer. I don't think it's a breech of contract because Dan scheduled the auction under Matthews and since it's no more and he works for morphy I don't see how it could come back on him, but what do I know I'm not lawyer. I'm sure there is a reason morphys decided not to do the auction.

Originals only for me. Always looking for Simpson oil, Super A, and MFA oil cans and globes.

It doesn't say there won't be an auction ! They need more than an auctioneer , they need items to sell.. Please don't say negative comments about Dan Matthews unless you know absolutely what your talking about..We have know idea what their agreement is all about..and shouldn't speculate..
"this is what Kathleen said in the email " Dear Registrant for the 2014 Show .
Thank you for your registration to the "Big Friendly". We were recently surprised by a phone call from Dan Matthews of Morphy Auctions stating he will not be fulfillling his committment to do an auction at the "Check the Oil!" Show this June. We are exploring our options and will keep you informed.
It's still a great show and flea market...I wouldn't miss it,,been going for 16 years..

Was not trying to throw negative comments towards Mr Matthews by no means, just disappointed about the new turn of events. It is the best show in town regardless..

this is news to me... sure hope they find a way of getting an auctioneer and rounding up some items to sell. I for one, was only making the trip because it was both an auction & a show.

They might not find someone to do an auction this year but i bet they will next year for sure!! Still one of the best shows even without an auction.

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

It should make for a better show, People will buy from vendors instead of "saving" their money for the auction.

I to am disappointed that there is not an auction. If I am on the road anyway the more events I can pack into one trip the better!

Still, the CTO! Show is a GREAT show even without an auction. There are a lot of vendors there that you will not see at any other show. There will be a lot of nice things offered for sale and if you are a vendor or thinking of vending this may work to your advantage. I have heard many times at this show or the Iowa Gas Show, "I would like to the buy it (the item I have for sale) but I am saving my money for the auction". As a vendor this may actualy help sales.

In defense of Dan, I have talked to him personaly and the problem is that he has not been able to put enough quality items togather to do an auction. To do a half pieed auction would be worse than no auction at all.

Regardless, we will be at the show with a load of globes to sell and if you are even thinking about going just make plans to be there, you will be glad you did!

See you in Columbus in June!

I certainly agree with all that Lonnie said above. Expect the vendors will do better than usual and should load up all their best stuff.

I guess maybe auctioning off half my collection at last year's CTO auction is a hard act to follow......just sayin'

The other big question is, as a buyer, when to get there. If y'all remember, this was the show with the controversial start time last year.

This is from the 2014 on line page:
2014 Show begins Thursday late afternoon, June 19, continues through Friday the 20th and ends Saturday morning!

And this too is from the 2014 on line page:
The 28th Annual "Check the Oil!" international Petroliana Collectors' Show held FRIDAY June 20 and SATURDAY June 21, 2014

Last year, my first ever show, I arrived late Friday afternoon and some people were already packed up and heading out.
This year I think I'll be there Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning. And with no auction, should be on the road home early Sat.

I cannot wait!!!!

The show started around 4pm on Thursday. Some may have not liked that me personaly thought it was great as it gives everyone the same chance.

IN REPLY TO NO AUCTION AT CTO EVENT, PROBABLY DAN HAS NO CONTROL ON THAT, AND HE HAS TO DO WHAT HE HAS TO DO. WE HAVE KNOWN DAN THROUGH THIS INDUSTRY FOR YEARS, AND HAVE HAD PERSONAL DEALINGS WITH HIM. WE ALL DON,T KNOW THE WHOLE STORY. DAVE & LINDA PARR, TERRE HAUTE, IND
