I am new to this forum. Looks like a great place to find info. I am restoring my first pump. It is a Tokheim 39 short. I cannot get the computer to turn with the reset crank. It is not frozen, but seems to be locked. How to release it? If I cannot get it to turn I may take it out and mount the computer face with numbers behind the door. How does this effect the value of the pump? I have already taken out the pump and motor from the bottom.

First of all JJ, welcome to the best darn petro site on the web. A few months back, I did a feature about a "First Time Resto". Its not a Tokheim 39, but some good advice, none the less. The procedures are VERY basic, feel free to go with a higher quality procedure or process. But check out the linkanyway. I think that you'll find a few good tips in there. http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001409.html As far as the computer, try soaking it in a good cleaner, then, work with it a bit. Eventually it will probably loosen up. A few people have even installed motors to drive the mechanism. Hold tight, I'm sure that you'll get plenty of help here....

If the computer is still hooked up, try disengaging the lock out mech. on the side of the computer on the hose side of the pump. One flathead screw holds a grooved arm on the computer. Take it loose and try to reset after spraying all the computer head with some W/D 40....inside the wheels too. If everything else does not work send it to me, I restore them for $150.00. Thanks Joe

Hey Joe, WOW!! Kind of like that!! You did a nice job on that Gas boy would the color be red??. Pictures, I need pictures. Hey remember early on when I started the restoration on the Bennett?? Well, this morning I知 removing the pump and all its parts from a 35 gallon barrel of carburetor cleaner should be clean by now. Hell, might not even be there?? I値l post a picture later on today. Am I Break Dancing yet? No perhaps in a couple of months. LOL!! At the Pomona swap meet I bought this face plate for a buck. Thought it looked kind of art deco. I was thinking of painting the frame and having a piece of glass cut for it and then using it as a picture frame. I know I知 Weird. Any way was wondering if anyone knows what it fits!! It has the word Defender on it. Bill [This message has been edited by Mr Bill (edited 05-08-2007).]

Been sandblasting the disassembled pump last couple of days(what a sucky job that is)so need to catch up with replies. Blair and jkyocom-don't see a lock on this computer as either of you describe. Have sprayed the computer with WD-40. Still seems locked rather than frozen. Anyone have an opinion on removal of computer affecting pump value? Will try to post some pictures when I get time to figure out how. Thanks for replies.

Check all your springs...... There are 4 main ones 3 on the linkage side and one inside the head, behind linkage. Check linkage...make sure it is free. Joe
