Is there not a company that authenticates signs and gives them papers?

Collecting signs is a little different then breeding sheepdogs.

original signs were not meant to be collected that's why they are so rare and sough after by collectors so you won't find any original signs with a certificate of authenticity

This is why this site really is geeting old ,

Whenever a good question is asked ,there is aways a smart remark.

IMO I think it's time that some starts doing what the question was .
They do football , baseball , almost all sports , They do cars and boats and sure someone does Planes .
I'm kind of new with gas stuff but one will never learn if one does not asked a questions. The problem is most people are afraid to asked as they will be shot down, Remember these people at one time where like you !!! Beginners.

I understand the idea the OP is talking about. Similar to coin collecting with companies like NGC and PCGS. Unfortunately nothing like that exists in this world. With all the repop's out there, Oldgas veteran members should start a company like this. I believe it could help save the hobby and for us younger guys in the future of collecting!

It'll never be like it was for US OLD FARTS, WE started before the internet.
99.99& of new buyers/collectors WON'T SEARCH, they want/EXPECT Instant answers. Just like new writers, most are to lazy to go out & talk to OLD FARTS in their neighborhoods, use the local Library, etc.
Even IF we did start doing Paper Cert. the Fraudsters would be coping the papers.

Agree with Sid. Speaking for myself....the "younger" generation only has access to sites like this. Many times they (myself included) are too busy working their boring jobs to be able to get out and attend the many shows and develop their networks. This is meant as a way to immerse yourself in something interesting, historic and perhaps, in some cases, a release from the immediate reality of the present day. When you are constantly met with remarks above, human nature is to go elsewhere.

The hobby will always survive, but it will not continue to thrive. Combination of too many pickers sitting on huge piles of expensive signs, reproductions, foreign signs..... and even those with knowledge reply only with smart remarks.

I only buy what I know is authentic and doesn't break the bank. That happens about once every two months now. Continue to educate the next generation, spark their interest and the future of this hobby will have a bright(er) future.

Guess you're right Dick the flippers would just copy the cert papers. I don't know anymore. Eventually as time goes on people whom are in the hobby for a quick buck will move onto the next best thing. Leaving us people that truly have the interests.

You think we never worked and just hunted for signs all our lives, The problem is people today feel they are entitled to everything without putting in the effort. I think a lot of us on here did pretty damn well with no internet, we just looked, found, researched, called people, and built a collection without complaining because others wouldn't tell us where to find something.
