I picked this up at a garage sell today. I did a little research and found that it used hot water from a gasoline engine to remove debris from oil so that, I guess, it could be reused or recycled. It is called a Cross oil filter and was made by the Burt manufacturing company. What time frame was it used and was it used at a gasoline station or was it connected to a vehicle somehow? I know that they made one for steam engines too. The second pic is what is inside the larger can. It stands about 3.5 feet tall. Any help would be appreciated--Russel

Early day Scam Contraption, using water/steam to remove debris in oil. TP is a better Filter.

Man that sure looks like a 1950-60's coffee urn. Or at least that's what I was told. It does explain why my coffee was oily and foul tasting! LOL

I don't know if this will work but here is an ad from 1905.

If a guy was setting up an old gas station would this have been something that would be used at a station or was it used in plants utilizing gasoline engines for power? I don't want to restore it if it was not in use at stations. From the pictures I have seen these were pretty ornate...lots of pinstriping

It was made for home use where as a car owner could reuse their own oil. Saw one at Charlotte o few years ago that was unused and it did have some ornate advertising on the front and on the original box. But like DB said, it was most probably a quack product and filtered your money from one wallet to another. Restore it back to original.
