Hi gassers, I need some help from some of you Mae west guru's out there. Can someone enlighten me on the piece shown by the arrow.

1. Is this part of the handle (solid) or is it removable?
2. how do you remove it?
3. What does it look like on the inside?
4. Does it have a threaded bolt?
4. is it supposed to screw into the rectangular pump mechanism shaft?
5. does anyone have a pic of what this looks like when remove from handle?

Is this an item you can buy as a repro as my pump handle does not have this piece?

Any advise or help would be appreciated.

Hello,
1. Is this part of the handle (solid) or is it removable? Removable. It holds the handle on the pump shaft. Most were simply replaced with a bolt and washer.
2. how do you remove it? Unscrew counterclockwise
3. What does it look like on the inside? I will remove mine, scan, and post scan photo tomorrow.
4. Does it have a threaded bolt? It is one piece and is threaded like a bolt.
4. is it supposed to screw into the rectangular pump mechanism shaft? yes
5. does anyone have a pic of what this looks like when remove from handle? Will send tomorrow
Hope this helps,
Dave

thanks dave, much appreciated if you can list a pic. I have also seen a MW handle that seems to have this round piece fixed to pump handle with an internal pin with no thread. Is this another variant?

It is just two metal pieces: The stamped steel or cast iron handle and the attaching "nut"(my photo). The pin is actually the threaded portion of the nut and not part of the handle. It screws into the the pump shaft. You understand ? Dave
PS The handle also has a wood handle

Thanks Dave much appreciated. Is the pin shown in pic removable or is the whole item one piece?

Hello,
The "pin" is separate and is simply driven into and through the hole and then BOTH ends are slightly bent to prevent it from slipping out.It simply serves as a handle to enable one to screw/unscrew the "bolt" from the pump shaft in order to remove the handle.
One could secure Fry pumps a couple of ways to prevent the theft of gasoline, but as thieves circumvented these measures, others were adopted. Here a few:
1. Lower regulator handle and lock front door.
2. Remove pump handle and lock the pump shaft door (if equipped).
3. Lock nozzle into drainback(many later Frys have these).
4. Chain handle around pump to prevent handle from being removed or pumped.
Glad to help,
Dave

Hello,
People have helped me and I am always happy to pass on what I think I know. lOL
You can destroy stuff trying to figure out how to take it apart. I bought a bunch of Bluebird gumball machines many years ago that had a reverse threaded screw key. You would have a lot of difficultly figuring that one out.
Always glad to help.
Just remember...It's just stuff.

Here are pics of mine that came off a Fry 17 ... slightly different than Daves.

I have tape over the threads of my bolt to keep them from damage when I sand blasted it.

The groove in the bolt shaft is where the set screw would engage the bolt shaft to keep it connected to the handle when not attached to the pump.

The last picture shows the bolt entered through the handle. The hole in the bottom of the pump handle is where the set screw screws into the handle to hold the bolt in place. You would slip the handle over the shaft of the pump and then twist the bolt to secure the handle to the pump.

Greg's is original.Mine was turned in a machine shop from a drawing that I furnished. Also note that both of my 117 handles do not have set screws and both did not have the original "screw" when found. A good modification or adaptation.Perhaps Ron Scobie would add this to his list of quality parts ? Hello Ron??
