Love it and I like Shell. Can someone educate me here. What model of pumps would this have been used on?

I'm pretty sure they were used on whatever pump they had for that station. I don't think Shell had a particular brand that they stuck with when it came to pumps.
Here is a old pic of some on the pump.

Those are Erie 70/71 pumps the clamshells are on.

It is my humble opinion that Shell asked Erie to design the 70/71's expressly for use with the clamshells. You hardly ever see photos of those pumps branded as anything other than Shell. Even the Erie literature has artist renditions of Shell pumps.

The tops design is such that the base of the globe and the globe retaining screws are covered when the pump top is completely assembled. This was (in my opinion) specifically designed to stop people from walking off with the clamshells.

Later . . .

Jim

HMMM maybe I should clarify the crack a little more. (does this make me like Rob Ford??? ha ha ha)

It starts at the top flat part, towards the good side at the top, then runs along the top and goes down the side that the Paint is more faded in the SHELL lettering. There is a secondary run out of a crack but stops about a inch away from the split point. The crack goes down to a little bit below the "S" but stops there.
I have treated the crack with "Krazy glue" so to end any more possible travel of it. There is no missing bits around the crack (like chips or little pieces) and either end of the crack have NOT traveled to any of the edges or down to the collar.
Let me know if that explains it or if I need to clarify a little further.
