I bought this 48" Chevy OK used cars sign this past weekend, and it has 4 small holes in the center of the sign that are original to the sign. The reason I am assuming they are original is that the porcelain lines the inside of the holes, unlike the ones that have holes created/drilled.
Any idea what they would be there for? I have not seen many 48" OK signs, so I'm not sure if they mounted differently or what?

I have seen round 42" porcelain dealership signs with factory holes so that 2 single-sided signs could be "sandwiched" with a metal centerpiece to create a double-sided sign??

Could it have possibly been apart of a larger sign? Like a strip sign on s building and this mounted to the marquee panel?

On some signs, there was another in front, but on this it would blank out some of the wording. With the holes around the edge, one would wonder if there was some kind of tube supports there for the ok itself. Possible double sided with the neon coming from the side? Where is Ron from the midwest on this, he is an ok guy.

I have had a lot of OK signs but never a 48". I think it may be part of a bigger sign? I would be interested to find out also.

Not to mention the sheer number of outside hole not seen on the smaller versions. That is a lot of holes,

im stumped. i keep telling myself that the 4 inside holes are probably for mounting, but that would make the outside holes useless. so then I think, maybe it was a neon... but if that was the case the neon tubing would have to connect from the outside coming across the yellow area, which doesnt make sense either.

I don't believe it would have been for neon. I would imagine that if, it was a part of a larger double sided sign attached to a metal frame. Then, it would need to be supported in the center via the inner frame due wind load forces.
