It was a busy week with the Columbus show. We bought a few goodies at the show, but less than normal - usually 75-100 signs, globes, etc at the Columbus event, but this year only about a dozen.

Then Sat morn about 9:30am, a friend expresses his surprise that I hadn't left for the big dealership sign auction in Hamilton, Ohio - about 120 miles away. It started at 10am, but I called the auction house and confirmed no signs to sell until 1pm. We arrived about 12:30pm to find several of our collector "friends???"(who didn't tell us about the event). Bought several good items.

From the Columbus show:

1pc etched - appears original paint...

Two pieces with wood frame backside. Has reflective sandpaper material on front. Back has address of original dealership - from AZ...

Great looking buys everyone! Bob- looks like you went on a buying spree!
Scott- I love those atlantic signs I think I will look to buy some just like them to go with my white flash sign
Russ- Great Buys! WOW, you find some great stuff
Ron- No hard feelings but if I knew of an auction with some great signs you would be the last guy on my list to tell. You pay more then I do and no 'deals' would be had that day :-)

These are a couple of signs bought a month or so ago, but the new (top quality) cans, transformers, wiring and neon were just finished a week ago.

36" in diameter....

The auction was advertised in Antique Week - the one week I didn't read it the same day it arrived - took it with me to the Columbus show, but never made time to study it. Won't happen again for a while.

I want to thank Scott Shipers for the Tagolene oil can and Arron Hop for the Universal oil can. Bob Drake pointed me to the Handy Sandy tube. It has some cool pictures on it.

I want to Thank Bill Fortunes brother for the Skelly globe. I went up to this show with a few hundered dollars and came home very happy. Being laid off is slowing me down a little. LOL Sorry i couldn't remember Bill's brothers name.

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

Found some good auto paint stuff the last couple weeks.
This BPS wall card rack holds my Best Paint Sold auto paint brochure real nice.
The Devoe chart sign mentions both autos and carriages.

Picked up these cans too.
The Beckwith Chandler can matches a clock I have that is one of my favorites.
The Devoe Carriage paint can goes with that chart sign in the above post.
The Western can is from Western Auto.

I was very happy to add these two globes to my collection at the Columbus show. Here they are.

I have always wanted a TEXACO FILLING STATION sign. I planned to buy the one in the Columbus auction, but it sold for $4840.00. I got this one for a lot less outside at the show.

Check out this FREEDOM Oil Company Miners Wax Can. The miners would put the wax on their wick and light it for light in the mines.

This Penzoil bank was given away by Aetna Oil Company.

It looks like everyone had a good week. Let's see some more.

I am posting this for Greg and Tod Brown. This Vacuum oil cabinet is in great condition. All of the shelves are there and the top. Nice and streight. They bought it at the Columbus show.

This is a can that Robert Liter bought at the famous auction that no-one knew about. Look closely at the can. It is from Hamilton Ohio and they are advertising that they have 8 free air stations. It is a cool can.

Nice stuff guys.

I was tired when I got home from the Columbus show. I opened the mail at 11 PM and found an advertisement for a local auction that had a lot of dealership signs. I started fliping the pages of Antique Week until I found the auction. It looked good, too good to miss. So I had to go out and unload the truck from the Columbus trip. And off again in the AM.
If you thought that the prices were high at the Columbus auction, they were sky high at this auction for some common items. One sign sold for $2000.00. It was in great shape but there were two at Columbus priced under $500.00 in good condition. It seemed like most of the purchases at the auction were made by guys that are resellers. They must have some deep pocket customers. Here is what I added to my collection from this auction.
This was my favorite sign at the auction. It is in it's original iron frame.

Double Sided Porcelain Studebaker sign.

Single Sided Porcelain FORD sign.

Very old and Very nice Standard Oil sign.

Two United Motors signs that need cleaning.

It seems kind of strange that there were some very nice items at the Columbus auction but the signs at this local auction had more appeal to me. It also was nice not to have to pay 10 percent buyers premium. At todays prices, that 10 per cent adds up fast.

Thanks for the positive responses guys. The Indian sign dates back to the 1920's Texaco purchased Indian in 1931.
After looking at the Indian sign I was hopeing it would not go too high....there was sum crazy bidding going on later......I was thinking $2000 and bough it for $1500 I was very happy with that price.
If anyone wants to know the Ohio auction prices email me I recorded most of them.
