This month we are going to do signs of all types from Tydol, Veedol and Flying A. Please try to list the age if known, size, and type of material. (porcelain, painted metal, tin, paper and cloth.) Let's have fun with this and get as many people to post as possible. Remember this will go on the rest of the month. If you need help in posting pictures send them to me, Scott (quartcans) or good old Hubba and those guys can help post also. Okay Don, time to start your engines and psot those signs. Ted

This is a porcelain measuring 9 3/4 inches. I would imagine used in the 50's until?

This is a 10 inch porcelain sign probably used as a pump plate in 50's to ??? It came from a collection in Texas. I don't know that much about the flying A company so my estimation of the era may be wrong. I picked up the signs just because I liked how they looked.

Very Cool Ted. here is my only personal contribution to the thread from my collection..Tydol pump plate

Size 13" by 13" heavy porcelain. Not sure of the age.

I wish I had more signs of my own to post...I will be posting stuff here for other member though.

Large Flying "A" Winged Porcelain. This has always been one of my favorites.

This is a tin sign that I found back on the East Coast years ago. Interesting Flying "A" blasting off. Hydrogen treatment? never heard of it.

Very cool Tydol porcelain sign. Don't ya just love the colors?

My favorite Neon sign. I got this one at Iowa Gas in 2002. It's porcelain.

Great job fellas..Let's get behind Ted and really support this thread as well as the others. We know it takes time to take pictures and post them or email them them to someone to post but this is all about learning and seeing what items can to be found.

This flange sign is painted tin.

Got on my soapbox and forgot about this cardboard Veedol/Tydol poster commerating the 1933 Indy 500 win in my office. Don't know much about this sign other than my wife bought it at Iowa Gas in 1995 for $10.

Here's a very nice sign. It's the "Associated" sign with the "more miles to the gallon" Pitcher.

Here's a different flying "A" square sign.

Here's a squre Flying "A" that has the desireable green/red colors.

A nice Tydol "Ethyl" sign. Same vintage but East Coast.

Great signs guys!

Butch,
We're only covering signs here. We did globes from Tydol/Flying A in May of '03.
You can search this forum for Globe Of The Month for May and see whatever globes might still be posted.

Hi Don

That is my fireplace in our family room. The Flying A piece at the top is an original Porc sign. The Porcelain Saftey Check is the center part of a Veedol Saftey Check Lubrication sign. I didn't have room all in one place so I used the Veedol in one place, the saftey check in here and the Lubrication in another. We needed a way to keep the fireplace in this room, but not make it look too out of place. The wedding Cake is just something I made out of wood and fiberglass roofing material. Kinda hokey, but it turned out ok. The top is about 18' tall. Here is a shot of the whole fireplace.

Last sign I own. It's a painted steel tombstone. 28 inches high and 22 inches wide. Year unknown. Picked it up from a long time mechanic friend. He got into antique lighting and gas stuff doesn't even turn his head. Ted

Well guys thanks for a great sign of the month. We did really good, so for the month of March starting on March 7 lets get those flying horses going. Mobil oil will be the company. Remember metal, porcelain or painted, tin or steel, paper, cardboard or whatever. Please try to post the size, type and any info. you have on the sign. Thanks Ted

I love all these signs. Especially the embossed porcelain ones!

It makes it real hard to go out to my Coop and realize that I don't have evevn ONE Associated, Tydol or Veedol sign.

Oh well, someday I'll find one on e-bay or elsewhere that I can get for my collection.

Later . . .

Jim
