Collectable Of the Month New monthly feature on Old Gas WHY I collect 5 Quart cans- I think they Display better than quarts and there are not as many to chase - when I first started collecting in early 90s I , like most of us, collected everything in sight- I had everything displayed upstairs in a small barn- soon became obvious that I didnt have room for everything -by mid 90s I had about 35 5 qt cans and about 1500 one quart cans- plus signs- bottles etc- and was about of room- Along came Fred Stoke with his big scroll of qt pictures ( he only had about 4000 at the time} and he took about 300 of my quarts-I then continued to get rid of quarts and decided to stick to 5 quarts I will be adding to this post most every day- SHOW US WHAT YOU HAVE IN 5 QUART CANS ------------------ Wanted 5 quart cans

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN COLLECTING 5 QUART CANS expect to find a lot with top or bottom missing- they survived the years as parts buckets- storage bins etc- a gallon can lid will fit {Use DB} many cans will have a small hole where nailed to wall- Many New England cans -Oilzum in particular were nailed to Maple tee for collecting syrup- farmers used them for grain and feed scoops- also dont expect to find them for newer oil companies- most 5 qt cans were 1962 and earlier when cars used 6 qts or more of oil- MORE TO COME ------------------ Wanted 5 quart cans

Thanks Don for doing this 5qt topic, love the pics. When you get bored with all the fabulous picture cans, I wouldnt mind seeing the Standard/Utoco/PanAm/Amoco part of your collection.

Rod:
I think the clue is that you are at 'work'. Your company probably has the sites that host the missing pictures 'blocked'. If so, then you computer can't go retreive the image.

IT could be that and you're right, Jim, I SHOULD be working LOL. However, I know my workplace doesn't censor any usage of the internet. I'm sure I'm seeing at least 99% of the pics posted on oldgas and never noticed any other sites having this problem. I'm sure my can was the only one on that thread that doesn't show up. Thanks, Rod van Pelt
