Well I learned a valuable lesson today ($962)
I bought a SOCONY aircraft oils sign from
a JERRY MCDONALD that was so obviously a repop when it arrived that I tried to return it. Then the "Just a Coincidence" post showed up and all my suspicions were confirmed. Jerry maintains this is a real sign even when confronted with obvious facts
that it is a repop. Needless to say I'm stuck with a repop as Jerry will not
offer even a partial refund. Paypal said too bad, it was not an ebay auction item your out of luck. So here is a picture of the fake sign next to a real one and everyone can now add a 20"x30" SOCONY aircraft sign to the list of reproductions. I guess if I can keep someone from making the same mistake some good will come out of this mess.

Greg,
If you paid via PayPal using a CREDIT CARD, you may file a dispute with the credit card company. It's worth a try. If you used PayPal or bank funds, you're out of luck.

I believe there is another one of these signs trying to be sold as original also on ebay right now. Item number 260123557988 has that same back on it that looks rusty. It is a 6 inch Sinclair Oils sign. Why would someone try that on this sign? Original, mint shape is only about 600-800 bucks. I don't get it.

Sorry to hear about that Greg. What a PITA!

Roger- I think that sinclair sign was cut out of a larger oil well sign. Some guys are real good with an air saw. That why the holes are all jacked up.
