This appears to be an honest seller who is totally ignorant about signs. He plans to pull the auction.

The dishonest dealer is a problem but a bigger problem is the influx of novice and gullible bidders on eBay. I think collectors should learn about the hobby before becoming aggressive buyers. There may be friends and fellow collectors to provide advise at the shows but eBay is wide open.

He did pull the original auction and reposted a new one stating that the sign is a weathered reproduction.
