Well, its a rainy day here in VT and I have yet to get a globe to start a collection so I bid on a couple today. Question: I bid on a globe, it said I was the high bidder. I checked back after the auction was over and I was out bid. No problem, but when I went to the bed history (just to learn how this goes) my bid wasnt listed. I read about bidding history on ebay and it seems that if I was the high bidder at the time, my bid should have been listed.
Any idea why my bid wasnt listed? Thanks!

update: I dont know how this happened, but ebay linked me to an auction that ended on sept 2nd. Here's a strange twist. Its the same globe, same description, same seller,different item number. Should I assume the sale fell through, or should I be suspicious? Maybe someone here knows the seller...320156466999

It looks like seller "gkchevelle69" is selling two different Clark globes. However, he's using the same photo in both auctions. I'd definitely be suspicious since the seller has only one positive feedback.

The first auction was not stopped early and it closed normally. Check your eBay bid confirmation. It should reference the auction item number you placed the bid on.

I emailed the seller and asked if it was the same globe as the first auction. He replied, No, I found another one in my attic, I already shipped the other globe to the buyer.
Im new at this and definitely dont like the sound of it.
I sent another email asking if he could post new photos and description and I noticed ebay states"This user is registered on another ebay site and may not speak the same language.
Any advice?

I would email the seller asking for his phone number so you can talk in person about this globe,,,,,,,,,,,also give him the option to call you & if you get a response, ask some pressing questions....

...you can tell a lot about a persons character in emails & learn even more in person on the phone....

..Meeting the guy in person would be ideal but not always practical

Thanks for the replies. There are still 8 days left on the auction, so I assume someone will outbid me and let me out of this. I am reluctant to withdraw my bid since I dont have any history on ebay and dont want to get a bad rep. But if there are no more bids, Ill ask if I can call the seller and pull the plug if I have to. Just doesnt feel right.

Hey Vermonter, I have retracted bids a couple of times when I was first getting used to ebay and I have e-mailed the seller before and asked that my bid be canceled. So far the sellers have always been willing to cancel my bids. I figure if you make a mistake (or something doesn't feel right) it is better to clear it up before the auction ends. Just my 2 cents. Tell him you have a friend that lives locally and will pick it up and pay at the same time. See what he says.
There is still plenty of time on the auction so you will probably get outbid anyway. Good luck.

This Clark globe auction stinks. Why would the seller send a different globe to the original buyer?? Nothing is making sense with this seller, who has only a single feedback. If it were me, I'd retract my bid. Retractions are part of the eBay rules. The seller has no way to retaliate. Good luck with it.

A bid Retraction will get the sellers attention, then MAYBE they will post a 2nd picture OR SEND IT to you.

I took someones advice and emailed him and asked if I could call him to discuss the globe. he emailed back, said sure and gave me his number. I was going to give him a call tonite, see how it feels.

that someones advice was from me John........If i would have backed out of every deal because it didn't feel right, I would not have some GREAT items......

.just do your homework, I also noticed he takes pay pal which is very good for you especially if you can pay as an unverified member of pay pal which means you're paying with a credit card & not thru your bank account.......

FYI...I'm a "Verified" member of PayPal. When paying with PayPal as a verified member, the default payment method is first through your PayPal cash balance and then through your bank account. However, one always has the option to override the default and select the credit card method. I always use the credit card option because it gives me the added security and comfort level that your credit card company will stand behind you in the event of fraud or non-performance. We've seen examples of Old Gassers who couldn't get a refund from an unscrupulous seller because they paid through PayPal cash funds and not credit card. Good collecting!!
