i'm looking at another texaco globe on ebay. the guy says it original...but...if you look at the picture, and maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but it looks to have writing in the black band around the star, and it looks to be 3 spaced words...could it be OFFICIALY LICENSED PRODUCT? i know some are marked HULL, but thats and aweful long line of writting, is there something else that could be down there that i am missing? he has a reserve of 170.00 and it was just met, and the one bidding it up has no feedbacks. i sent an email and asked the seller but have not heard back. can someone help me, please.

Mike, Around the green tee... notice that it's black. They made that also white but the repop are black and marked at the bottom in the black band. Have him send you a picture of just the lens and focused on the bottom. Ask him what it says at the bottom. the way he worded it using the word "authentic" could be repop and if so that's an expensive repop. LOL

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

I SEE THREE WORDS TOO THAT LOOK LIKE THEY COULD DEF SAY "OFFICIALLY LICENSED PRODUCT" ALSO THEY REFER TO THE LENSES AS BEING 16". LOOKS FAKE TO ME, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE SELLERS ANSWER IS. JJ IS CORRECT, GET A CLOSE-UP OF THE BOTTOM AND ASK WHAT IT SAYS (READS).

My guess is its a repro.
As far as I know the black outlined T lenses were deep notched for glass.
The seller said the globe came off a 50's pump. Texaco stopped using the black outlined T in 1944. It stands to reason that when the station upgraded its pumps in the 1950's that they would install the newer logo globes then too.
I wouldn't buy that globe with my money.

ok, i let him now and got kind of a sarchastic remark. he's taking abuyer beware attitude, and sai he knows its a reproduction and appologized if his add was misleading. he told me to read it againa dn let him know what i found to imply that he was selling it as original. so i told him the wrods "authentic texaco glass lenses" was rather missleading along with, and this is my assumption, the rediculously HIGH reserve for an item that retails for 69.00 and he wanted me to tell him where i would get this item so cheap, so i told him VIC'S, GAS PUMP HEAVEN, BIG CHEESE PRODUCTIONS, ROUTE 66 MOTORS, and on and on... he did add to his item description it is not the original...FROM HIS TOKHEIM PUMP. but refused to use the word REPRODUCTION. so if anyone knows who "apcopure" is, or if he's on this sight, warm him, because he was bidding. i dont want to see anyone get ripped off. but it also looks like the seller might have been bidding it up himself. if so i hope he gets stuck with the sellers fee's. his EBAY id is BCHANSON so keep an eye out if you buy his stuff.

Apcopure is John Rogge. I'm not sure I got the spelling correct. Does anyone know John's email address?

Looks like the high bidder really wants to pay too much for that globe. Either that or he has a good friend bidding it up for him.

I'll sell any of my repop globes for $199.00 each. Any takers???????
