I remember around 3 years ago that Shell bought out Texaco stations and saw the information at old Texaco stations.Yet on a recent trip heading thru Bakersfield area I saw a Texaco station with modern sign still in operation, now I am wondering whats up as I never see any Texaco stations where I live. All the others I seen had been changed over several years ago

Up until July 2006, both Chevron and Shell co-owned the "Texaco" gasoline brand name. Since July 2006, Chevron owns exclusive rights to the name. The Chevron "Texaco" stations have added signs which state "With Techron" and will accept Chevron credit cards. I've noticed that there are still many remaining non-Chevron "Texaco" stations throughout the country. When Chevron will crack down and force a re-imaging of these stations is anybody's guess.

Hope that helps.

You still see a Havoline/Texaco car running around in NASCAR. Don't think it's going to happen.

Havoline/Texaco car?? It's sponsored by CHEVRON!!!!!

The non-Chevron "Texaco" stations I was referring to are not operated by Shell anymore. They are local dealers and even jobbers who are too cheap and/or lazy to re-image the stations.

So what does it hurt if they choose not to re image?

Yes Paul Texaco/Havoline Racing, look it up !! Do you see Chevron on the side of the car ? Why do you think they still have Texaco/Havoline out there. Because it's great for business!!

I would imagine if you owned 56ChiefStar Texaco for 30 plus years, you would rather leave it Texaco than change it!!

I emailed a very reliable friend down in Texas a few days ago. Asking him about the situation with Texaco.

His response to me "Texaco is still a major recognized brand".

When the 42 car won two weeks ago, I couldn't see a Chevron sticker on it anywhere? I'm sure it's there somewhere, just haven't located it yet. LOL

edited for spelling

Mr. Black T,

Apparently, you don't know where to look. I can assure you that Chevron now owns all of Texaco, including the Texaco and Havoline brand names. Check out the Chevron website and then proceed to the link for the "2006 Texaco/Havoline No. 42 Driver"...

Mr. Pabloooooooooooooooooo

Maybe you should reread the first post! For that matter, read the whole thread over again. You seemed to have missed something. I know who owns Texaco !!! We are talking about the signage here.

When have I ever said Chevron didn't own the Texaco/Havoline Brand names? My friend also states

" The Texaco brand is too well known and valuable to stop using it".

Why don't we wait and see, it's only been 6 years.

Thanks for your valuable input.

Mr. Black T

P.S. Looked everywhere, still can't find that crummy little Chevron sticker!

edited for my amusement

Black T,
Maybe we should both go back and reread the thread, particularly 56chiefstar's first post. In my reply, I was commenting on all the "many remaining non-Chevron 'Texaco' stations throughout the country".

I never said or implied that the Texaco name would disappear. Quite the contrary. Chevron plans to continue growing the number of Texaco stations through a jobber/dealer network. My main complaint was (and is) that Chevron is still allowing some of the formerly "Shell" owned Texaco stations to operate under the Texaco branding and signage. Since Chevron now exclusively owns the Texaco brand, the company should force the current dealers and/or jobbers of those stations to close or rebrand. This will avoid confusion among loyal Chevron and Texaco customers. As a Chevron employee, I quite often fill up at a "Chevron" Texaco station. It's the exact same gasoline, with Techron!! (By the way, the "Chevron" Texaco stations will have signs saying "with Techron" and will accept Chevron credit cards.)

Cheers!!

"the company should force the current dealers and/or jobbers of those stations to close or rebrand"

MAYBE Chevron exec's realizes that IF they try to Force a re brand, those small dealer/jobbers just might switch brands OR become INDEPENDENT instead!

db,
You don't get it!! These non-Chevron Texaco stations are NOT supplied by Chevron and are not affiliated in any way. They are generally local independent dealers who prefer to ride the Texaco brand as long as possible. The problem I see is that these stations can be supplied with any gasoline from any jobber. The quality of the fuel, service and station appearance can reflect negatively on the entire franchise just as Chevron is trying to improve and expand the brand.

Questions??

So by being an independant, using a copyrighted name, are they not guilty of copyright infringement? Hence, the original comment.
