It's gotten higher as the news has traveled north! The story here, 90 miles away from the collection, is that it sold to an individual or individuals who plan on turning it into a museum and the sale price was about half of what Pogo heard. It's speculation at this point, but I have a feeling that some deep-pocketed oil and gas company executive(s) from my area bought it and are planning an oil museum in OKC.

I spoke to kyle and that number is almost twice as much as what he sold it for... Regardless it is a HUGE sum of money and from my understanding Kyle has the best quality collection around. Kyle liked the rarest and cleanest signs, globes etc. It will be not be broken up and will be able to be seen by the public once the building is ready, which will be a couple of years.

There isn't enough bandwidth in America to show photos of this collection. Kyle was one of the original big-money, quality-first collectors. Luckily, I've been in the facility where this is stored. Kyle only bought rare, and he only bought quality. I've known him for about 8 years and for the most part, in that time, he was only buying a piece or two that he didn't have. Let me put it in perspective for you, he had over 2500 globes displayed and lit. And I don't mean capco dino's. I don't know how many signs he has had, but many are one of one known to exist.

I heard that the gentelman who bought the collection is building his Museum right on Route 66 in Oklahoma.
Visitors will be able to easily view the whole colelction while traveling thru.
I too heard that he had a 3 year buy out and at that time the new Museum would be ready.
For those who have not met him in person, Kyle is a great guy..very, very knowledgable about the hobby.
Kyle has a library of stories to share about the hobby, friends and his finds going back 35 plus years.A great memory too.
Like Seth said he was a pioneer...and he has always been willing to share his collection to any fellow collector who wanted to travel to his small town in Oklahoma to view it.

I doubt it will ever happen, But would love to see his knowledge of gas & oil in a book. But as he once said "that would take 3+ yrs. to complete" [& that was about 10yrs. ago]. It would be one of The GREATEST stories ever told. db

Sounds like there was a similar one 20 yrs back in OK .Bit smaller scale though but nice pile.
This guy I work with moved a lot of this collection bought in OK to Calgary AB.. a truck collector named Ron bought it.
This guy had just started working for Ron, and he came back with a load on a 5th wheel trailer. He asked for the reciepts, looked at them and threw them back at him!! At first he was a bit confused, then Ron said.. My guys live better than that when they are on the road for me!!
Anyway another collection story from OK, but this one got away..

I had heard 10 mil. Having seen the collection it is not surprising.
I was allowed to make photographs and a video but was ask by Kyle not to let them out. They are a very treasured keepsake of a fantastic visit to a magnificant collection with a great gentleman.

...well, if it's true that this stuff will be in a museum, that's GREAT news...I hate to be TOO cynical, but I'll believe the museum when I see it...I can think of more than one collection in the last several years that has gone 'underground' - someone rolls in with deep pockets...and POOF!...no one knows who bought it or where it is... ...gotta go, I'm off to buy a Powerball ticket...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
