Hey Guys & Gals,
It's time to share the petro relics that we've stumbled across in our recent travels, and check out what other people have found as well.
If you would like to contribute to this feature, simply post the pictures here or email them directly to me and I will post them for you. Be sure to include a story or description with your submissions.
If it's too close to the next installment, please note that I may hold your contribution for posting when the new FATW comes up. Send 'em in!!
Happy Trails!
Wes

This small chain in Illinois still has full service! Looks to have been a Union 76 at one time... Check out the cool square canopy lights -- this is only the 2nd station I've seen with these. This is a neat old store that once sold gas.

Neat old Gulf bulk plant. The first time I saw it, it was surrounded by tanks, vines, and overgrowth, and was likely full of globes. When I finally made it back, it was as shown here -- the land was cleared and grassy. A peek in the open door revealed that it is now completely empty. Neat old pile of junk:

What a fantastic collection! I really like that the pumps are mostly unrestored -- and one is even in the house that way! That gives me hope...

Here is a neat old Pure station that I have driven by on my way to work for over 30 years and it has not changed much. If you look over the top of the station on the left you can see the roof of Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts.

I like that Pure station, Tom. I wonder what happened to the roof -- that high pitch should have continued back to the chimney at one time. Mick -- Good eye! I was wondering who would be the one to notice that Gargoyle sign! It wasn't for sale Actually, believe it or not, that picture was taken in a museum! More about that later, though... Wes

Looking closer (and from the air), maybe that Pure station was made that way. Perhaps because of the building immediately behind it (see link)?
You can rotate view by clicking the compass directions at the upper left of the view.

Scott,I thought that was Jimmies house just as soon as I saw the pics of under the deck. Jimmie and I both have Streetrods. I'll have to crank on him though. He told me he was going to get serious on that roadster and it look the same as when it was in the basement. Pat

Here is a friend of mine's station that he opened in 1966 I believe. His boys recently repainted it back to the way it was when it originally opened. Very cool.

I went through that intersection 1000's of times to attend a University not far from that location but must of had tunnel vision because only a couple of years ago did I notice the lighted neon Phillips 66 shield sign in the lobby area. Yes, I was given the tour (twice) and it will be one of my most memorable experiences in this hobby!

I found these pictures on one of my old "floppies" today while searching for something else. I had completely forgotten about taking them. The original neon is still in working order on two of the Gulf letters. Most of the original tubing is still present on the other two but cracked. The station is in East Ridge, TN.

Found a few cool signs while on my travels, too bad they were not for sale! The Desoto/Plymouth has never been illuminated dealership/Desoto closed the week before it could get wired up in the building.

Dedicated three hours yesterday to pump hunting and follow up, so took some pictures along the way. This is a cool station, talked to the owner for awhile. How about it, Seth? Next door is this short Tok 39, it belongs the the brother of the owner of the station, got him on the phone and threw an offer out there, he will think about it. The station owner brother says if it's not for sale can he hire me to fix it up for his brother as a surprise...haha, he has not seen my work Then I went to check on this chrome Gulf pump I'd seen before but never talked to anyone, it's at the end of this old gulf station. Called the number on the door and the lady says there will be an auction that included the pump and gave me the date... And saw a couple sign poles still on the job... Did not bag anything but still a good few hours of therapy.
