Anyone know if the new neon bodies are being dated? With Slama powder coated reproduction bodies, new technology neon transformers, new bulb socket and I think plastic neon standoffs , it should be easy to tell they are not NOS originals, even for me. But then I'm not that smart.

But then I'm not that smart. I'm not worried about anyone thinking they are NOS originals NOW. I'm worried what will happen 20 years down the road. I don't have a problem with these being made and I think they are interesting but they should be marked. I saw an original many years ago. Its different than the original Brad posted a picture of. There's always more to learn about what we collect. There's been a lot of discussion on here recently about the future of our hobby. Many of the people involved in the hobby now won't be around 10, 15, 20 years from now. How can we expect the collectors of tomorrow to continue the hobby if we don't mark repro and fantasy pieces?

There is no reason not to date any new/fantasy collectible.

I agree 100% Bob,the sad thing is years ago some members of the quad AAAA advertising asociation aproached their gongress men on getting a bill passed for just that.Well you know as well as I it got NO consideration because it didn't mean anything to them or they didn't get their pockets full ! Another thing that is sad is alot of the reproductions are put onto signs, clocks etc from pics that are taken from the originals, and if they are dated that date ends up on the repo. jw

Look at the Coke Hobby... many repops there and new people are affraid to collect coke items because of it.
If it's a repop it should be marked period. 10 or 20 years for now some new guy wants to buy a sign or globe he would know for sure then if it original or repop.
Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.
