I am bidding on a Phillips aviation can, almost 5 days to go and I am getting hammered by a ebay "newby". If he posts here sorry but, you're like a little fly that keeps buzzing around my head. To go up $10 it has taken him 3 bids. Ebay should give "crash courses" on how to bid. I understand "sniping" at the end of an auction, I do it all the time. "Wars are won and lost" in the last 30 secs of the auction. But to wear me down by bidding 10-15 times and still not reach $20 in bids is crazy. Just had to get this off my chest. If the person is a member here, get some ba**s and bid. Better yet, quit now and let me add another can to my collection, LOL.

When I bid on something, I throw a bid & forget about it. IF I get an email from seller/ebay I won, OK. If not I didn't spend more than I wanted.
I un-checked the box for ebay to notify me when I get outbid.

Bob,
Retract your bid & snipe it later.

Normally I snipe at the end. With all the Drs and hospital visits I know I need to bid early if I want something. Lately by the time I get out of the hospital or feel better, the auctions are over and I didn't throw a bid out, LOL. Just hate the 14 bids to raise the price by $7-$10. They aren't going to win the item anyway so, quit screwing it up for everyone else. Now most of the time I'm like you Dick, I throw out a number I am comfortable with and at the end I either won or lost. Not sure why I checked the can's auction today. Bored I guess.

I've always laughed at that kind of bidding also. What's even funnier is when you've got 2 or 3 guys doing the same thing on one auction. It shows 32 bids and the item is up to $41.

Porcelain neon may be right. Someone may be shill-bidding. But, I know that people will "nibble" to see what the bid is at to see if they really eant it. I have done that in the oast to try to get an idea. I, too, would normally snipe at the end.

Bob: I think there are still services you can signup for to snipe for you.

I use www.gixen.com as my snipe site. has never let me down.

sometimes I put an initial bid, mainly to "mark my territory" among some friends of mine with whom I have agreements with to not bid each other up. Other times, it's just a last minute thing with no warning.

With the new ebay rules "wiping out" the buyer names, how do any of your friends know you are bidding on an item unless you contact them? By the way, the "newby" never bid again. Just drove the price up $10. What a dumbsh*t, he was!! If one is going to bid at least get your bid in the "ballpark" or don't bid at all. (These are my opinions, not those of this site or management, LOL)

Wes I would love to have a "tall cold one" But with the new meds that is a big NO NO right now. I hate giving away $10, especially when I could have "thrown" at something else I don't need! LOL Have I ever mentioned I'm a cheap bastard, if not, well I am!

He has bid $100 7 times because he is the first bidder and you have a Reserve on your item and because he didn't hit the reserve that you have set with any of his bids it just shows all bid were $100.

My screen shows he raised the bid by .10 once, .30 once, and $2.00 twice. That's pretty funny if that's what actually happened. He'll catch on. smile
