Hey guys,
I have a chance to buy this sign. I'm going over this weekend to make an offer and am wondering what the community thinks would be an approx. value? One-sided only, no can, neon, etc. The holes for the neon make it look like it has more chips then it does, but look close...it's in pretty danged good shape. If I get it, I will be selling it, so look for it in the 'for sale' section.

I would say $1000 to $1250.

I dont believe this sign came with neon. Looks as if it has been "drilled" to add neon..that would acount for the unusal amount of chipping at the stand off holes, also dont see any large holes for the insulators as original neon signs have. Would be hard to put a value on it, without first hand inspection...RD

I would put size at 6 ft. high. Not sure if it's dated...I'll have to look. As for the "unusual amount of chipping", I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to...maybe the photo doesn't show, but there are is next to NO chipping around the holes where the neon would have gone...I'm not sign expert, but I'm pretty sure it's original. Any more ideas on value??

It is easy to tell if it is original or not. Just look at the holes and there should be some sign of porcelain on the edge. There may not be much. I think this is like the sign that I sold at Zirkle's auction last July. When the neon is done right it will look like the wings are moving. Dan

Dan,
There is DEFINITELY porcelain on the edges of the holes...that is why I say it's original. Don't see how it could be drilled and still have the porcelain on the insides of the holes?? If I can ask, how much did the sign go for that you sold at Glenn's auction?

Here's the one Dan sold at the Zirkle auction:

To me, it looks like some of the holes are in the right places (on the pegasus), but some are missing (other parts of sign)? Maybe it's just the picture?

The one that Wes posted a photo of had been restored. I know the sign was originally neon but I do not know if they add any holes or not. This sign measured 72x72 inches not 60x60 I had in the catalog. Dan

a first hand inspection is nice however not always practical.......i would want some close up photos of the problem areas & there appears at least in the photo you provided some chipping on the border, left tip of the bottom part of the shield looks like it was bent , appears the bottom blue porcelain border is glazed & on a sign like this condition is very important in determining a price..............The can, neon, wiring, standoffs, housings & labor would also add up & how much would depend on who restored it.......that said i agree with Mattgas on the price if you want to resell & make anything..... unless it is excellent condition which it doesn't appear to be......good luck with it & i would be interested........
