Travis, There is still the air eliminater line that can put out some smell, cap or plug it off up top before it goes to the vent. You know ...air expands when warm, contracts when cool. Depending on changes in ambient temp. the guts, (meter & pumping unit) can be breathing through that tube if not sealed.

What I would like to do myself or see done is a narrow body clock pump with a simple 2 piece flat sheetmetal like a National Apex with all original guts restored to original shape. Then make the skins out of lexan to the same specs as original metal so all the parts fit through the same as on the original metal. Now THAT would be a SHOWCASE pump!!!! Put decals & a globe on it, paint the top & base & guts.......

Joe, I have thought about doing that to a 36B porcelain body pump [either 2 or all 4 panels] & then Loan it to the local museum here in town.

On a pump like an apex ...all of the dimensions can be cut into the lexan , then they can break the corner. I have mine done at the sign co down the street, they have a vacuum former too... They did the cover & ends for the avatar clock. They also make the aluminum plates & stuff for my clocks.

If it's as complete as you say, I say what the hey and leave it complete. It sure isn't going to hurt the pump in any way and it's not like you're going to do all your pumps that way. After reading all the pumps that are "gutted" so to speak, I think breaking the trend is a smart and cool way to go. Just because everyone else does, doesn't mean it's right or has to be. JMO!

Keep the gutts in the rare high dollar pumps,They will be worth more down the road other wise they just become cabinets.
