This might look a little strange... It's made of slag glass set in mortar, and features two abstract Olds rockets:

It was designed to be backlit. Here's a crude attempt using two lamps. We plan to build a lightbox with fluorescent tubes behind it.

But what is it?? Well... In 1966, Oldsmobile opened Building 70 in lansing -- their new administration building. Harold Metzel's office (the president) took up most of the top floor, and was divided by the "Rocket Wall." On one side was his desk, and on the other was a large triangular board room table (which is now in the R. E. Olds Museum). The Rocket Wall cost $15,000 to build, and featured illuminated rockets on both sides. When the office was gutted several years ago, the Rocket Wall went to the R. E. Olds Museum, but not all of it would fit. Two panels were sold, and this one appears to possibly be the leftmost one in this picture:

We're quite anxious to get this piece of Olds history lit up again and displayed, but that'll have to come after the globe shelf...

Love your new rockets, Wes.....what a great piece of history!! Be sure to affix the story and picture to the piece somehow..........so the next owner has the 'provenance'.

This buy took several months to actually get into my hands. Thanks to Maurice Campbell it made it's way from the east coast to Dixie Gas and finally to Tulsa, OK where I picked it up. I think the Sunray lenses look very nice on this globe although you normally see them on an orange ripple.
