Recently aquired WW2 petrol can dated 1943. On one side the letters USA are embosed and on the other the letters QMC. Can someone identify what QMC stands for?

If you had been in the Army you would have recognized QMC as Quartermaster Corp. While they supplied the can, the Corp of Engineers (Petroleum Companies) supplied the gasoline.
