I bought the Tokheim 876 last week, and am curious about the clamshell. I noticed on Ebay that someone has what they say is an original @ 399 bucks. Seller states it has "made in USA" cast/molded around the rim/mounting flange. Where the repops made is USA or imported? In addition to that Q, I guess I'd like to know how someone would know for sure if they were looking at an original or repop. I know from my previous Q's that the original glass is not as translucent/clear white as the repops, but without having both side by side, how do you know?

I know from my previous Q's that the original glass is not as translucent/clear white as the repops, but without having both side by side, how do you know? In answer to your question, if the globe is an old original and has any paint on the letters, it will be baked on. Usually the original paint will be a dark color of red showing age patina and it will not be glossy. It will be very hard to scratch any of it off. The repops, I think, will have freshly painted letters and will look very bright red and glossy. This paint should scratch very easily. Again this is just my opinion and almost everyone has one. Does the one you are asking about have any paint on the letters? Also, does it have "made in USA" on it? If it does, I'd be pretty certain that it would be an old original. I don't think the repops have that on them. I hope this helps to answer your question since I think that is what you were after.....Dale

I would think it to be original. The repop ones are made of thiner glass & would show no where at all. I would say your safe there But we still want some pics

Thanks guys. I'll post some pics as soon as I get a new battery for my camera. I need to post a couple pics of a few veeder roots I have too. One side of this clamshell has a very little paint remaining at the bottom of the letters, and yeah, it doesn;t scratch easily and is very dull. The other side, someone at one time has tried to repaint....pretty obvious. Dull but you can see brush marks. It does have the "made in usa"...I had to look very closely, after I had seem where someone posted that theirs had the made in usa. I'll try to post up pics shortly. Something else about this one, one side looked like it had a hardly visible crack running top to bottom, and when I looked inside the globe the glass is actually "folded in", like a curtain or piece of cloth would fold.
