You may be suprised at the answers you wii get. Personally, I es #2 ,soft on the H, or more often shorten into a slang Tokum when I'm talking to other collectors.

You know when you are getting a good deal on a Tok when the seller can't even begin to pronounce it. That always gets me thinking it's gonna be a good deal. If someone knows what is is and how to pronounce it the price just doubled...

I think it is #2 also but I have said it both ways so don't feel bad. Hey Jack, can you write a Gas Pump Dictionary so we know how to correctly pronounce and spell our petro goodies? But then I would have to learn how to use a dictionary so maybe that's a bad idea. Mike

Down Under all pumps are referred to as BOWSERS, no matter who made them. Different parts of the USA pronounce WORDS differently.

Writing a dictionary sounds like a good idea, but this is the most mispronounced word in the hobby.
ECO
It is Eeeeeeco, not Echo. (Short for Economy, the name the company game the first seven models made).

I have a hard enough time trying to figure out how to pronounce some of the last names of folks on the site Like POGO'S and Oldnfuelish's A roll call of pronounced names would be nice mine has been BUTCHERED all my life. My 11th g-grandfather came from the same area as TOKHEIM although the name is suspected to have come from the Bavarian area. HIS was originaly JOCHIMSON...but MINE is now spelled YOCOM and pronounced YO-COME.....and I am related to the YOCUMs....Maybe to 'Lil Abner YOKUM.. I can't say if Dewight YOACHAM is a cousin ...same pronunciation What confuses me the most, is you guys that have a Given name, a site user name, and an email name and all three are different Then some use email, some use PM. Sometimes I don't know who is who or where they are in my computer..... I do good to remember my own name sometimes I have always called them "TOKE HIME" I read somewhere once it means "Take Home"???? If that is correct the H would probably NOT be silent.

Is it Fleckensteen or Fleckenstein
It is Guarantee, not Guaranteed.
The pump is a Dayton, not a Rapidayton. Dayton also used the name Rapidayton to describe their water heaters.

This may be staying from the question; if it is I apologize. But I submit that within collector circles, many times you don't have to use the word "Tokheim".When you simply say,34,36 36B or 39, a lot of people just know what you are talking about.

Some say Geubarco instead of Gilbarco, also. That comes mainly from the south....
