What paint, products and or steps has anyone taken to repaint a crown? I'm sure one type of paint has to bond better to the glass than others. Thanks guys. Have a Happy New Year.

It's not so much the paint as it is the prep work that will make-or-break you crown re-paint.
If you are repainting an original crown, you will need to make sure it is perfectly clean - before and after you mask it off.
If this is one of the reproduction crowns - you will need to sandblast the areas to be painted after masking.
You should paint the color with a airbrush - not a hand-held brush. And the best way is while the globe is on a lighted base. That way, you can slowly build up the color while turning the globe as you spray. This will help reduce/eliminate any heave/dark areas.
Once you are done painting - let the crown sit for a day before you peel off the masking tape.
Some will want you to remove the tape while the paint is still slightly wet - but there is WAY TOO much tape to do this without smudging some area on the crown.
If you use an airbrush, you should not have a heavy build-up of paint so the resulting 'edge' when you remove the tape will be minimal.
Later . . .

I was told by someone that he first covered the globe with a rubber substance and after it dried he used a exacto knife to cut out the areas that were to be painted.

I did a shell globe like T-Way suggested and it turned out nice. You will have to spray it or it will not look right lit up.
