Here is one of my buys, my Tokheim 36B project. Frame, computer, and electric components have all been sandblasted and restored. Original 1937 paint was wet sanded and covered with clear lacquer and is smooth as glass. As you can see I still need a few trim pieces. I'm done restoring pumps with "pretty" paint.

For me it was complete amazement when I walked into my friends shop and he had these original NOS oil can display racks and this NOS sign, all lined up and ready for me to purchase! Great find when it comes from your home town!! The other great buy I made was to get these wonderful Westland Oil globes with the help of a couple of other Old Gasser's. Thank you guys!

Jason, love the resto job on that Wayne, but Coops, I like your "as found" look too. I am wondering why you are "done with restoring pumps with pretty paint" Maybe we should start a thread on that subject. John

I really didn't buy anything too extraordinary in 2009 - but The Keeper mamaged to expand her Ice Cream Globe collection last spring.
She bought this single original 16.5" lens in an original body at auction out of California. She didn't want it shipped, so the auction house delivered it to me in Iowa in August.
Come to find out - the body had a 7" base and the cabinet she displays them on will only accept a 6" based globe body.
So I took the original body and swapped it for one of our reproduction bodies. As you can see, I painted it solid Orange and made a solid Orange 'frosted' lens for the back. This way, the 'glow' behind the body matches the color of the lens.

Later . . .
Jim

Here is my BOTY, my Wayne 866 barn find. It wasn't really a buy since it was free, but definately my best find of the year! It's "sleeping" now until spring in the unheated garage, but I hope to have the restoration done by this summer. Darin

My "BOTY" is this "Gilmore" lighter fluid dispenser. Huge size, wonderful engraving, and a site glass on the rear. For a size comparison, I took a photo of it next to one of the "Bellboy" dispensers that I have. Here is a better photo of the engraving.

Wow! Awesome stuff out there. These two air stations will probably be the "Buys of my Life". Thanks to a used car dealership going out of business in the very middle of town and oldtoydoc for being so excited when I called him to tell him what I was looking at (that helped Michelle loosen up the wallet so I could purchase these). Pictures were snapped before I removed them from the used car lot. The owner said he took them as a trade-in many years ago. The USACO Air Station has a patented date the same as, my Son, David's Birthday. Just 61 years earlier. Mike

You'll have to get with Michelle or Don (oldtoydoc). Michelle claimed the FREE AIR and Don has dibbs on the USACO. I can't complain, at least they let me enjoy them for now. Mike

Doc: They are posters. Sorry I didn't mention that. The other item is an employee name badge. The posters measure approximately 27inches by 12 1/2 inches. They are from 1930's to 1940's. The badge measures 1 1/8 inch by 2 inches. It is from the 1910's to 1920's. Down at the bottom it has the words-"Does What Gasoline Can't Do". This slogan was also used on the early signs.....Dale

Thanks Dale,
The Radiator sign is a trade sign from a radiator repair shop. It is hand made soldered tin, it was made to show the soldering skills of the repair shop, it is about 1 1/2" thick and made to hold water.

WHILE I LIKE THE SIGNAL LOGO, IT HAS ALWAYS CONFUSED ME.
THERE'S TWO LIGHTS TOP RED AND BOTTOM GREEN THEORETICALLY.
MOST OF THE SIGNS SHOW ONLY THE RED LIT UP, YET THE FLAG SAYS "GO!"
MAYBE I LOOK AT THINGS TOO DEEPLY, BUT IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME!

The mixed Signal message bugs the heck out of me, too. When I was a kid, the Sherwin-Williams logo irritated me, now this. It's always somethin' :-)
