They ALL look GREAT. I too have seen too many over restored pumps, where all you see is what some can do w/ paint, never the caricature of the pump in all it's Glory of the past.

Im torn. I like the "as found" look, but also like the shiny "like new" pumps. Question: Did the pumps ever look as nice as some guys restore them to? John

I love original pumps also they are great that way.I use to restore all of them but now I like them left alone unless someone painted them five times.I'm not into that look. Not to offend anyone but I don't like when the cleared it just looks wrong to me,just my opinion, like I said no offense. Joe

No problem Joe, I didn't think I would like the clear coated look either till I tried it. The reason for this on my 36B was that it had 2 different colors of paint and some surface rust. After wet sanding it, the 2 colors and surface rust were still rough to the touch. I bought clear lacquer at Home Depot and brushed on 3-4 coats, even over the decals. I then wet sanded (to get the brush marks out) and hand waxed the lacquer. It is now smooth and even and if I didn't tell you I cleared it you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Pictures do not really do justice to the finished product.

This one I found in the woods on its side. I just removed the guts, used an SOS pad to scrub the porcelain panels and stainless with and put a new hose and repro signs on it. It even still has the state sticker on the glass.

Not sure if this will qualify... I have a tendency not to restore any of my pumps, yet. Just added a repro metal Gulf sign. Foolishly sold this one about a year ago. Still have this one. Also two short Bennett 956(??) that are unrestored. The Chevron pump was traded for a 49 Ford Panel truck (parts). And, finally, this Erie 70.

Matt, I think that Erie 70 would look better next to mine.

All of mine are in the as found condition, with the exception of a half dozen or so that I "STARTED" restorations and stripped them down. I never seem to have the time, money and gumption all at the same to get any of them completed.lol
