Hi Guys! Now be nice!!! I'm talking gasoline nozzles here! Slooowwwly getting my M&S #65 back to original. Front and Rear door skins are now fabricated. New problem. What kind of nozzle do I need based on this photo. I've got a pen cap stuck in the nozzle reciever to keep it from falling out. The handle just catches on a lip on the Shut Off lever. What are the 2 hooks for? This is an OPW #1 nozzle, which I'm sure is too new for the 1937 pump. Any suggestions will be helpful. Sincerely, Scott H. Is the shut off lever in the correct position?
From the pix, I'd say your nozzle is too short. (Heard that before? LOL, couldn't resist) The older nozzles had a different curvature to the spout and some were quite a bit longer than the one you have pictured.

Hi. I looked at the photo provided. Have always been curious....what is the spring-looking thing that is attached on top of the nozzle? I always see these on gas pump nozzles. What are they for? Is it so you cannot put the nozzle too far into your car's gas tank? When did service stations start using them?

The type of nozzle you have wasn't used until the late 1940s. You should look for a brass nozzle, preferrably without a hook on the top. Jack Sim

I believe the spring is keep the nozzle from falling out of the car. It hooks inside of the lip for the gas cap.
