A guy emailed me and has some tire signs for sale. Can anyone give me an idea of their age and what these signs are worth? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you
Mac

If these were offered to me I would pay 200-250 each for the Dunlops and would go to 300 for the Penn tire sign

Mick,
I think these are older than the ones from the thread you posted and I think those were really thin tin signs. These appear to be a heavier gauge metal. I haven't seen them in person yet, though.

Mac,

I agree these are a heavier guage and I don't believe they are tin. The Pennsylvania Tires sign is older..did you ask if it was porcelain? if it is it would be worth more.

I emailed the guy and haven't heard back on whether or not it's porcelain, but will post here as soon as I find out.

Thanks

MAC, YOURS ARE SOMEWHAT OLDER AND WORTHIER FROM THE 50'S-60'S. THE ONE IN RANDY'S SHOT IS NEWER FROM THE 70'S AND DOESN'T HAVE THAT NICE STRUCTURAL EDGE BEND FRAME EFFECT HENCE THE CHEAPER PRICE. OF COURSE CONDITION IS EVERYTHING! LOL!

ALWAYS LIKED THOSE YELLOW DUNLOPS!

Thanks Doc. Any idea what they're worth? Again, I don't know if the Pennsylvania sign is porcelain or not because I haven't heard back from the guy.

THE PENN TIRES SIGN "LOOKS" TO BE TIN DUE TO THE ALL OVER FADING. PROBABLY A 40'S OR 50'S ERA TIN SIGN...ONE I'VE NOT EVER SEEN BEFORE! I'D GIVE $150+ FOR IT BASED ON IT'S CONDITION.

AS FOR THE DUNLOPS: I'D GIVE $100-125 FOR THE LEFT ONE SINCE I CAN SEE SOME DEGRADING ON THE SIGN. THE RIGHT DUNLOP LOOKS BETTER OVERALL PROBABLY WORTH $200-300.

THE PHONE SIGN LOOKS TO BE A DOUBLE SIDED FLANGE AND IS PROBABLY WORTH $250-$350 IF NO RACKING AND PORC LOSS/CHIPS ARE AN ISSUE.

Thanks Doc. That helps a lot. I'm glad I asked...the guy is asking $600 for the pair of Dunlops and $450 for the Pennsylvania sign! LOL.

I'm going to throw an offer at him and see if it goes anywhere.

Unfortunately, the guy is dead set on getting $600 for the pair of Dunlops and $450 for the Penn tires sign because he said he's seen them go for that on eBay.

I told him I don't use eBay as a value guide as I've seen people overpay all the time for something. I told him to put it on eBay and see if he gets what he wants.

Thanks for all of your help, guys.

Good for you!! I've told more tnan one,"throw it at Ebay, then you will know".And,by the way so will we.From what I have seen, what colectors with connections will pay and what bidders on Ebay will pay are two very different things.JMO.

well if he has seen them go for that much on ebay, let him put them on there. I agree on the 50's-60's for the Dunlop signs, they scream Watkins Glen sports car racing!!! They would look real good in my shop at 300 a pc.

Mac he is asking way to much for those signs. I would give no more than $700-$800 for all of them. I also agree if he can get that for those off Feebay put them on. Or he should of done that already!!!!
