just purchased a Wayne 70 pump that is about a 7 scale 1-10 in shape. It has a Ford Premium Benzol globe with a Benzol round tin sign. I am looking for any info on how this pump was painted and help with info about how best to restore.

You've come to the right place for info. Some of these guys are full of knowledge! As a new collector/restorer myself two books I would suggest you buy are Jack Sims "An illustrated guide to gas pumps volume 2" and PCM's "guide to gas pump restoration" Jacks book is full of useful information and laid out so it is very easy to follow. Although I'm personally not overly impressed with PCM's book in whole it does have some very good information on proper branding and paint for the different makes, models and generations of pumps. Enjoy and welcome!

Pumps were/are just like vehicles, they changed owners regularly. Might have started out at a SHELL station, station was upgraded & pump was taken by a service company & sold to a Mom & Pop station. Then sold to a farmer when they were able to upgrade. Nice thing about farmers is they never scrap out machinery, just might have something on it they can use at a later date to keep something else working.
The only reason we are still finding early pumps is that they were being used/saved Somewhere during the scrap drives of WW2 & Korean Wars.
It's your pump now to preserve for future generations, restore it to the company & condition YOU like. It will most likely be re-done by the next owner just as it has been done before.

To answer your question about how it was painted, that is, if you mean as a Ford branded pump, I think it would have been Ford dark blue trimmed in white. If this is not what you are talking about, then do as has already been suggested and do it whatever way you want. Ford never made gas pumps to my knowledge...Dale

Let the Moderator remove if they want !
Pump looks GREAT the way it is.
Need to rotate the file in your folder, then click Edit in your picture post, highlight the old image & Paste in the new. [I get tired of Rotating my Monitor !]

I also agree leave that one alone and go buy another one to restore. That one is perfect the way it is.
Originals only for me. Always looking for Simpson oil, Super A, and MFA oil cans and globes. Shawn Morris
