Okay Guys. I have been working on changing my dental office to the old filling station theme. We started painting in mid October and I have been moving pumps and hanging signs ever since. It's almost done. We are having a big open house party on Friday June 11th from 3:00 - 7:00 with food, drinks, 50's music, classic cars in the parking lot, bouncy house for the kids, and tours of the office. Everyone is welcome if you're in the area. Here are the pictures, but it is much better in person.

That looks great. Seems to me a good way to expose the hobby to all sorts of people, especially the younger set. Heck, you may even have some customers donate some "decor" items for your office. That would be cool having a really great item given to you by a patient. I know I would be more at ease surrounded by all that Petroliana!

I wish my dentist office looked like that. I'd rather look at signs and pumps vs. watching the news.

Thanks Guys for all the compliments. I wish you guys could see it in person. I have always liked work, but now I love it! Almost 95% of the patients love the new decor. I have an office in a small blue collar town. These people are down to earth hard working people who appreciate this kind of stuff. I have connected with so many older patients who have some history of working at stations back in the day. It's wonderful to be able to share this stuff with people on a daily basis. It just sat in my garage before and I was the only one who ever saw it, now hundreds of people a week get to enjoy it.

Down the main hallway are pictures of my Grandfather who ran many stations. There are pictures of him in front of his stations back in the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's.

I have traded dental work for gas pumps and signs in the past and I am always open to a good trade. It works out well for both sides. And yes I would rather have a good sign than money. Anybody who wants quality dental work for signs or pumps, let me know.

I have had a few patients donate a couple of small items like cans and porcelain license plates. One guy brought me the top to a rusty visible gas pump. We use it as a planter in the front of my building.

Dick, there are actually 2 to 3 quart cans in each room. You can see them in the pictures if you look close. There are a total of 13 different ones showing in the pictures I posted. It's like playing Where's Waldo? Ted (Dad) only comes to get his oil changed every six months, but we do have lunch together more often than that!

One last thing... I do have to thank my Dad for helping me find this stuff and teaching me the ropes. He has created a monster though. And my wife has been very understanding. She actually likes this stuff. I practically had to sneak that Mobil Wayne 40 pump out of the house and there was no way she was letting me take the Tokheim 850 and Wayne 60.

Thanks again guys! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I definitely enjoyed sharing!

Great job Jason - a really good idea to show your collection at work!

My dentist has a poster showing Hollywood actors in the ceiling above the chair - same poster four years in a row - I'll send him a picture of your office :-)

Tim - Anytime you in the area let me know, I would be happy to show you the office.

Matt - The office is 740 Spaans Dr, Galt, Ca 95632. On highway 99 15 minutes south of Sacramento. I would love to see that 56 GMC.

Tom - you're not that old. LOL.

Man that is great Jason! I love it! I am an accountant and I always bring in 8-10 cans and a handful of signs to hang in my office during tax season. Good conversation pieces for people and they always like to see what's new.

Awesome office!

Funny story about the French Pump. I really wanted that pump in the office, but the ceilings are only 9 feet tall. The girls at my office said there is no way you are going to get that pump in here. That seemed like a challenge to me so I made a little improvement to the ceiling to gain 8 extra inches and now that pumps fits just right!

AWESOME OFFICE, Jason!
The only time I go to the dentist is when I have to. If you were closer I'd be in your office every other week for a check up and even counting the days to my next root canal....well, almost. LOL
Thanks for the pics!

dont get me wrong I really dig that scheme, great eye candy to look at while you are getting the ***** drilled out of your mouth but something about the rusty porcelain does not sit well with the steril environment. I love it but if Im getting something major done the steril issue comes to mind. Im sorry im just OCD about dirt. Killer colection though!!!

Yes it is. I have seen a picture of an old polly station with the same sign. It's double sided, but the other side is real rough. I clear coated the good side because I didn't want anymore paint to come off. Thanks guys for all the compliments.

I sure would be curious to know where that 57 Vette came from. It looks like my sister and her ex-husband's. It was fuel injected and had the red coves. They bought it new in Monrovia? raced it in Ontario and the last time I seen it was in the early 70's broke down in their front yard. She offered it to me for $300 to get it out of the yard. They were divorced and he was living in Ontario. They are both dead now but I and their son would like to know what happened to the Corvette. Mitch

My Dad (Ted Roach) bought that Corvette in 1967 right out of high school. It was yellow and he had it painted red. He has not had it painted since. I will make sure that car stays in the family. It would be cool if you could find the Vette you are looking for. They are really cool cars.

man. That's a very cool office you've got there, Dr.
I'm hunting photographs to show what my 1954 Texaco station may have looked like -- especially interested in interior office shots. I see a framed photo on wall of your office and wonder what year that photo is? Thanks for any pointers you can give me finding era appropriate pics. Jonell

Jonell,

Those were pictures from my grandpa's station in Lodi, CA. Send me an email and I will send you copies so you can see them better.

You can drill my teeth anytime!!! When I was a kid, there was a dentist who dressed up like a cowboy and his assistants like balerinas and I thought that was cool... but it's got nothing on you - man, that's a cool place.
