Well Dick, I am pretty sure they are......I believe down at the bottom of the head it's marked with a date stamp.
But then I am old and don't see very well.
But if you really wanted to make sure and look out for those folks, send me a check and you can pick it up at Iowa and see for yourself. wink

Is this 1 of your REPO weathervanes being sold as an original?
http://duluth.craigslist.org/atq/1730682994.html

I hope there is a DEFINITIVE way to tell the difference between your REPRODUCTIONS and the originals?

Could I see a picture of the date stamp or dated sign?
Can it be easily removed?

Hi Tom,
Check your PM.

I think the easiest way to tell would be to look at the very bottom of the head. You would have to grind away the powder coat and the date stamp. Then you would have to repair the missing metal and somehow fill in and repair the powder coat, but then it would still be powder coated. A dead giveaway since originals are painted.
Now if someone were to buy a reproduction and remove all of the powder coat, (no easy job), grind away the date stamp and then let it weather and paint it and then let it weather again to make it look old, maybe they could pass it off as an original. But it would seem like that would be a lot of time and work. Don’t you agree?

Tom, I will have some at Michigan Gas. Are you driving up for the swap meet?

I see the guy is from Superior, WI. If you really want an original, you might want to contact Ryan Underthun and see if he can look at it for you. But I wouldn't spend $1,000 for one. I think that is high.

Thanks for the clarification John!
I was looking at buying my brother the Original craigslist weathervane for his birthday because he has a 1968 Firebird 400...
So I asked the gentleman for pictures and if it was an original??
I still havent heard back from them when you posted the NEW weathervanes for sale...
As we all know from past experience, the originals value will be greatly affected by the onset of reproductions!
So I'll avoid the hassle from the get go ...
Your repos are great looking signs and very well made!
Thanks for having the signs dated...

Thanks Tom.
I never even gave a thought to not marking them in some way. I know there are too many people who have tried to con people into thinking something was original when it was not.
