Mick, IMO fake. Mobilgas pegasus signs were wall hangers, but this one has no brackets to attach it to a wall. The backside has no mounting points for brackets, even if they had been removed.

I'm with you the white accents do look funny. In fact to me they seem almost creepy, especially the eye .

ok so i went down to the bottom and someone already pointed out that its a repro.think if i had a bid in there i would have retracted it quicker than wink.but at least she is being honest about it and posting the fact.

I'd say it was made in the late 80's early 90's, as most repo items were not made in the 70's.
That's the problem w/ UNDATED REPO's, @ some time someone will be taken to the cleaners !

I can see a new buyer on ebay, buying this. And from the feedback I think it is a new(er) buyer.

What I can't understand, is why someone with a feedback over 1700 is bidding on it, especially when it got up there in price? Wonder if they were just driving up the price?

These were available on e-bay 5 or 6 years ago. They were selling one every week in the $125. price range.
There is a Shell clamshell sign that came along at about the same time.
Also there is a fiberglass United Service Motors sign.
I think all of these could be had with or without neon around them too.

The seller has to be happy, they got over $700 for a bad repop.
