And now for something completely different... Has anyone dealt with the cleaning of cardboard cans? I've got one that's nice but has some oil on it...

Thanks,
Wes

I WOULDN'T USE ANYTHING HARSH. MAYBE JUST SOAP AND WATER...LIKE DISHWASHING LIQUID...NOT DISHWASHER DETERGENT....SOMETHING LIKE DAWN OR JOY OR SIMILAR. I KNOW I'VE MESSED UP A FEW COMPOSITE CANS BY USING THE WRONG FLUID OR RUBBING TOO HARD....HECK, IT'S JUST INK ON FOIL-LIKE CARDBAORD, RIGHT.
GO EASY!

BEFORE AND AFTER PICS PLEASE!

If there full and you scrap even a little of the foil off, there going to leak. I've got four or five of them cans that leave a ring when you move them.

No Goo Gone. Soap and water only for me. Sometimes you can't save them as the oil lifts the color off or makes it very soft.

I have a couple that were open and partially full when I found them, but the labelling/colours were in really good shape. Oily/dirty on the outside.
I emptied the oil, and flushed the can with warm soapy water. I cleaned the outside with soapy water also - no rubbing, I could see that the foil and cardboard was spongy.
I filled the cans with Oil-Dri, and they are fine. I empty the Oil-Dri every now and then, and refill with clean. Even after all these years, the oil-dri still absorbs some oil from the cardboard.

Always looking for Texaco Canada, Supertest, White Rose, McColl Frontenac, and Miller Oil Co. info.
