Got my first pump today. It is a wayne 784 and it is in pretty good shape except the pump is rusted solid and the glass windows that go on the top are not there but other than that it looks pretty good. Just really dirty. The funny thing is that I origionally found it on craigslist and was in the middle of asking the seller questions before I bought it and it got sold to someone else so I posted an ad on craigslist saying I was looking for a pump and the person who bought it said "I might have what you need" and after he sent me some pictures I knew it was the same pump. Got it for 65 too which is not too bad only 15 dollars more than what it was origionally listed for.

Here are the pics I got from the sellers

And here are the ones I took of it at home. It is only in pieces because I had to fit it in the trunk of a 2001 chevy malibu.

lol I will get that fixed as soon as I can get it put back together. Going to get rid of the gas pumping parts of it though. Thing is way heavier than I thought. I can't imagine what some of those older pumps must weigh.

SORRY [not really], just couldn't Resist! LOL
Gaspump Rob uses a Honda Station wagon to move pumps, couldn't be that hard using a Cheby Malibu.

Call me crazy but I use a Nissan Maxima to haul EVERYTHING (minibikes included) and have for years. Works like a champ and gets awesome gas mileage.

That will be a good looking pump when done for a newer pump. I think I contacted you on a pump I had for sale on craigs but it was older than you were looking for.

Yep that was me. I bet the response is usually the opposite of what I had. lol! I hope to make this pump an Amoco pump. Should be a fun project.

Got yourself a nice little project now. If you have little kids around, Plexiglas works for the windows. All 3 of my pumps like that have it. I do not know when the manufactures switched from glass to Plexiglas but it takes a beating much better.

Is there a frame that goes around the window on this pump? Also what is cheaper glass or plexiglass?

Brand new prices I believe Plexiglas would be cheaper. At least when I replaced my Blast Cabinet windows it was cheaper to go with Plexiglas.
Here is the frame from my Gilbarco Pump. Yours would be a little different but this should give you an idea.

I just figured out today that there is a second half to the face plates on my pump that I don't have. Anyone know where I could get that? From pictures I have found it looks like there used to be a piece about the same size as the upper face plate on both sides but without any holes in it. Here is a picture I found that shows what I am talking about. http://www.flickr.com/photos/10707024@N04/2701759945/in/photostream/ The part I am trying to find is the part that says regular

Anyone know how to open up the electrical box? I can't seem to figure it out. Looks like the back screws off but I can't get it to move. I will post a picture of it soon but it is a cylinder shapped box if that helps.

Found a Derby decal under the phillips 66 decal today. Is in pretty good shape and it is on a few layers of thick paint so I was hoping to remove the paint layer with the decal attached and maybe put it in a frame or something. Anyone know hwo to do that?

Started gutting it yesterday. The origional owner must have stored it upside down for a while because the pumping stuff was full of water. Which of these doodads do I need to keep inside and what are some of them? I know I don't need the pump and good thing because it is rusted solid, The motor works and I am going to save that for other projects, I don't know what the gray thing is but it hooked to the bottom of the computer and the hose outlet and I also have this brown thing that has some pipes on it that used to hook into the pump at the bottom and go up into the top area and then back to the hose outlet. Nice thing is since everything had water in it there is no gas smell anymore.

Draining the water from the brown thing

Other parts I removed

Doesent look like I need any of the things I pulled out of the base. Is there a special way to remove the computer or is it just the few bolts on the bottom? Also how do I redo it? I really like taking gearboxes appart and cleaning them out and getting them going again and I am tempted to do the same here but I'm not sure if I should. Also any instuctions on lubricating it?

Found this under the phillips 66 logo on the other pannel. Anyone know how to remove a decal without damaging it?

I also found this under the AVGAS 100LL sticker.

Does anyone know how to remove the part that holds the light sockets from the inside of the top? I need to remove that so I can pull out the electrical box and so I can pull out the rest of the wiring but I can't figure out where it is screwed in at.

Took the upper half to the car wash yesterday and blasted the heck out of it and removed almost all of the dirt. I could actually see my reflection in the stainless steel top after I was done with it. I also assembled it real quick to see what it looked like put together and I think it looks nice. I am going to strip the paint down sometime and since the rust is not too bad I am just going to sand it and paint it with POR-15 and then prime and paint it. The nice thing about this is that since most of the pump is stainless and the lower pannels are porcelin coated I only really have to paint the base and the frame. I also got a computer coming in the mail soon. I think it might work but I am not sure.
Here are some pictures of the pump put together just to see what it will look like. It is no where near done yet and it still needs some parts like the window frame, ad glass, and the lower half of the face plate and maybe some new stainless steel bottom pannels. One side has some nasty dents and deep scratches in it.

Well the pics are rotated the right way on photobucket. I wonder if it takes time for it to make the change.

Since I can't find the parts that I need does anyone have the part that they might be able to trace or give me some dimensions for it so I can make my own?

Your electrical box might have some nasty tar-like potting material in it. It's highly toxic. People melt it out, though, at their own risk to rewire the lighting manifolds. If the wiring inside is in good shape, I would probably just use the old wiring.

Is it really that toxic? I did find that they used it to seal off the ends of the conduits and I just chipped it out and I think I got it all out. I am going to replace the wiring in there because the insulation was kind of dry and there was also a lot of water in the conduits and electrical boxes. The switch was also full of water and I think I should replace that too. Just got to figure out what kind will work for it.
