I can give Rick the benefit of the doubt for the past and an open mind for the new show. I've been involved in a number of situations with the media, including the printing of inaccurate quotes attributed to me. One time I was made out to be a fool when I was promised it would be fair and accurate. I can understand Rick being at the mercy of some director, producer or editor who didn't care about accuracy.

I looked at the history channel for Oct 25th, I can't find the show "Rusty Nuts". Just Pawn Stars and American Pickers. Did the date change?
Thanks

I wasn't going to comment on this thread, but as I watch it develop I will.I've never watched Pawn Stars, have no intention of watching the new show and seldom watch American Pickers.IMHO,none of them have any real relevance to the hobby as a whole;entertainment, maybe, relevance,no.

I say this because the hobby is so much more widespread and diverce that there is nothing that they might show that will have much of an impact, again,IMHO.There are many of us out here, and I suspect many more "out there",who really don't care about what they do.We will make our own decisions about what to collect and what to avoid without any consideration of "entertainment TV".

Just my way of doing things.Nothing more. But I will say this.I'm working with a couple of beginners right now and that is the advive I give them.

I'm with you OldIron. I don't watch either of those shows or Antique Road Show, they are all totally unrealistic. Don't do a thing on Ebay either. I get a kick out of some of the guys on here getting burned on signs etc and whinning about it here. Greed will get ya every time. I keep it a hobby and sleep good every night.

It was a SODA machine...I'd hate to see the reaction here if it was a GAS pump...

...oh, just you wait! wink

...and, on a lighter note: can't you just imagine the promos for the show with its original name...

"CATCH 'RUSTY NUTS' TONIGHT AT 9, ON THE HISTORY CHANNEL...IT'S CONTAGIOUS!"

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Yes just you wait ,I wonder if calling Andy Griffith the coolest show ever and the best show ever , could be hypocrital because it was a fictional town but it was just a town with fictional people .

They did it to a gas pump too!! Did no one see that gosh-awful frankenstein "restoration" of a Wayne 70? Rick went on and on about the terrible shape of the pump, how finding the parts would be "so hard" (for a Wayne 70??...seriously??) and then when he showed the "restored" pump it had parts from a Tokheim 39, Gilbarco 96, and who knows what else. I only watch Pickers and Pawn Stars for the same reason I surf "showcase" on this site...to see people's cool stuff. The people on the shows are simply playing a part.

...hmmm, let me see if I can explain the difference...not sure why 'The Andy Griffith Show' keeps coming up, but for those who don't know (and there can't be many on Oldgas):

...'The Andy Griffith Show' was a well-written family comedy set in a fictional North Carolina town (patterned after the real Mt. Airy, NC, but that's not germane to this discussion)...I don't think many people mistook the show for a documentary...

...the History Channel shows referred to in this topic are works of fiction misrepresented as reality...their being on a channel such as THC lends them an air of authenticity - "well I saw it on the History Channel, so it must be true"...

I just watched the show and I have to say I really liked it.

Originals only for me. Always looking for Simpson oil, Super A, and MFA oil cans and globes.
